Hey. I have a 7A-FE in my 95 Corolla. I've been reading corollaperformance.com again, and I'm really interested in making it into a 7A-GE.
I'm wondering where I could get Toyota's G heads. Probably I would have to go to a junkyard and get then out of a 4A-GE. Anywhere I could buy them new?
Anyway I was also wondering how much work this would be. I have no experience taking out or taking apart engines, so I'm wondering if I could do it with some tools and a Haynes repair manual. Or is it too difficult a job for me to attempt?
Also, how much would fuel economy decrease and how much hp/tq would I gain with this mod?

If you've never taken apart an engine... this project may not be the best start because there is a degree of wiring involved, along with parts swapping. A haynes manual isn't gonna help you much either... It's not extremely difficult... but you wanna learn things and see watch the steps before you simply jump in.
I have a 4AGE head I can sell BTW, but you'll need more than that.

the valve reliefs on the pistons are different also, G heads have a wider valve angle therefore making the edge of the valves go deeper into the cylinders. The pistons may hit them.

I think its the opposite. Wide valve angle creat a higher chamber which the valve won't go as deep and has lower CR with the dished piston on the 7A-FE.
nope.. it's the other way around. Porsche 924 timing belt and 4A-GE pulley!
another option is GATES timing belt.... T111-116 teeth, T107-117 teeth, T140-118 teeth
Ukrainian102... what i heard is that tuning would be hard to maximize the power of the said hybrid. the 7A-FE bottom end might not be strong to rev high enough that it can go with the high revving parts of the 4A-GE head. you have to figure out how to make the bottom end capable to rev like your head. i hope i didn't confuse you more.. hehehe

as far as I know, the pistons will hit the valves.
Nope... pineapple is right... the 7AFE pistons are dished and the compression chamber size in the 4AGE head is significantly larger. There will be a compression loss and the valves won't hit.

Have you tested it? Because the 4A-GE pistons have cuts in them for the valves, as the valves are at a larger angle, thats the problem and thats why they would hit.
