AE86 engine conversion?

hey guys, i know this has been a topic all over the board, and i'm sorry for repeating, but i'm cosidering to do a swap in the near future, and i have 3 options in mind.
1. 4agze
2. 20 valve
3. turbo a rebuilt 4age

Firstly though, i wanted to know which would be the most expensive partswise... and also which one involves the most work. For awhile i though 4agze was the easiest but i read some stuff and found out that it wasn't quite as easy as i thought :P Anyways.. your guys input would be great. Oh.. i guess the last option would be (and what my parents are begging me to do) is to sell my 86.. and get somthing else.

Thank

If your willing to sell your 86 I'd be considering buying it! If you run to that road! Also is it a HatchBack 86?

with a 4agze you should get a different tranny.... the stock tranny can't hold up

with a 4agte built correctly, it will be the most expensive

with a 20V you will have issues with water lines and the distributor

IMO learn about turbo, and possibly go that way.... or get a smallport and run it on stock electronics

The stock tranny is good enough for 200 hp, so if you go with a 4agze you don't need to change that. If you plan to go turbo and go passed the 200 hp mark, then I would suggest slapping on a different tranny.

i've heard the stock tranny can't take the torque if you launch...... which is why my friend (best person with toyota's i've ever seen/met) will be using a different transmission with his gze

not true.. i've T50s go around 200hp. i guess it depends on how fresh the tranny is. hachi_slow is right passed 200hp, better used a celica/supra tranny with a modded bellhousing.

that's if you're buying everything TRD. you can absolutely build a turbo-d 4A-GTE from some donor cars, and it won't be as expensive as getting a COMPLETE 20V motor.

it's a little bit of a pain if you still want to run your heater...

interesting.. what if i were to not use a heater lol.. hahah... like i know witht he 20 valve.. the waterlines and distributer need you to bang up the firewall. but is it really that bad? ... as for the prices.. i can get shop prices on some of the stuff... liek if i go 4agte then what kind of parts would i need.. i heard it can handle wuite a bit stock.. i'd like to go maybe like 7 or 8 psi. so i heard that i can just go with a rebuilt engine (low kms), a turbo manifold and a turbine off maybe a subaru impreza or 300zx.

I meant a "realistic" option.. not a dream option.

Depends on what your goals are for the car. The GZE is a good all around choice and I don't really think you can go wrong with it. It will be excellent as a daily driver, more torque down low than a built na 4age will ever get you, unless you spend some serious cash to upgrade the driveline.

20v's swaps are fairly well documented now, but unless you take it to someone who has a lot of fab experience or has done a couple of them I think it's more trouble than it's worth. Most of the 20v swaps are about as expensive at the gze's. Plus, the 20v motors are peaky, just like the na 16v.

If you can get 160 hp at the flywheel that should be plenty, the 86 isn't that heavy of a car. It doesn't make much work for me to get my hi-comp to drift. Straight line speed isn't one of my goals.
