Ok, I'm not talking about the real car. I'm talking PS2-GT3 ... I've been so busy for the last couple of months that I barely touched the PS2 my GF bought me. Well, got sick of working tonight and finally got to playing it again. So anyway, I got everything I could for the AE86 (except brake controller, which I'll get next time) and kept it NA and started tuning it a little. I'm trying to get it to drift but also be balanced to get good lap times without too much fighting.
anyway, just wanna know if any one here is a hardcore player? I entered the middle class, FR race @ Trial Mountain and got a lap of about 1:38. With a few more runs I should improve that.
Anyone wanna do an online challenge? like pick a track, get your best time, take a d-cam photo and post it?
that is a novel idea, but having the rear step out will RARELY improve lap times. it is mainly for the enjoyment and the knowledge that you understand the limits of your traction and have full understanding of the handling of the car.
if anything, i have found that the high poweref FF cars have more consistant lap times - with the standard dual shock controller.
i guess i was dancing on 2 topics at once. I'd really like to get all the GT buffs to do this online challenge.
the drifting thing would be just for fun. my friend and I used to play. I'd have an RX7 against his BMW and they were both setup to drift a little with almost the exact same power:weight ratio and we'd see how close we can drive to each other while racing thru the track.
In terms of perfecting lap times, I find that the only reason I keep slwoing down is the tire wear. With it on, I'm quite consistent ... but that's prolly because I used to hit the PS2 hardcore. I think I can shave maybe another 2 seconds off that time with more tuning and just getting to know the limits a bit more. I'mm just getting re-aqainted with AE86 and trial mountain has that weird turn near the end at the bottom of the drop before the quick left, right. Still trying to figure that one out too. I'll post a lap time tomorrow. All are welcome to challenge!

I love all the courses except the redone SS Route11. Midfield and Tokyo are great for higher powered cars. Seattle is prolly the best. But I do love them all.
Edit: Got a few pics. Finally beat those damn Amateur Class FR guys at Trial Mountain. Only shaved about 1 second.

Why are you using the normal Trueno? I use the S.S. version. I got one S.S. set up for drift and the other for grip. My grip one can give the world class race cars a good run for their money on normal in arcade. I usually get second place.
You should also try drifting other cars. I use the 80's RX7, NA Supra, NA MR2, Trueno, Trueno S.S., Altezza, Miata and a Silvia. I'm also working on some FF cars and had some sucess with Civic R, Cetlica GT and a CRX. But I can't do it with anything that has 4x4 (unless it is off road but I don't think that counts).
i have been drifting in the GT3 for a little while, i still need practice. gamfaqs.com has an excellent drifting FAQ for GT3. i'm using one of the settings they suggested for my trueno(s). however i cannot maintain a long "showy" drift, i seem to always spin out. i dunno i think i may be pressing on the gas too hard. if i dont spin out i lose too much speed. i'm not really sure, but it always seems like luck when i actually drift good.
laguna seca is my track. drifting possibilities are good there. i'll check out trail mountain and see what i get.
Yay! lots of response, I think we can get something going then.
I'm not too far into the game since I spent a lot of time trying to get all the gold fot the licences (with little luck) so I only have the regular AE86. Also, I like it when the races are extremely close with the computer cuz it makes it a lot more realistic, sometime I even de-tune car so it's more even. In this case, I kept the car NA and thru on as much as I could except the brake controller. Managed to squeeze out the win but just barely. You can see that my front right tire is just GONE!
So I guess here's the Challenge.
-NA AE86(regular version)
-Trial Mountain
and post your times! I'll try and improve mine some more.
