XRS Owners in Winter - Wheel Size

For the XRS owners driving their car in the winter, what is the smallest diameter wheel you can fit over the car’s calipers? Im sure it can fit a 15" wheel, but can you also shoehorn a 14" on there? Reason being you save some considerable $$ when buying smaller diameter winter tires.

Thanks

I'm running 15" rims now. It looks REALLY tight expecially on the front. I'd be very surprised if 14" rims would fit.

Thanks, the XRS guys are always quick to answer. Do you know of any enthusiast owners in Ottawa? Id like to check one out in person outside of a dealership.

I called to make an apointment for later tonight, Im going to take one out for a spin. I although Im sure ill love lift, I need to get a feel for the midrange..of all the cars in its class the XRS has one of the lowest tq ratings and as a daily driver I dont want to wind it up all the time, Im stuck doing that in the AE86. I guess thats the price you pay for less displacement and more fuel economy

Hmm.. I used to have 15" rims on my 04 Corolla S and everyone used to say, the wheel size is out of proportion with the body of the car. They were way too small. Now, my XRS has 16" rims, which look proportionate with the body of the car, but 17" rims with 215 tires would look perfect on the XRS. Although, I have a bit wider 205 size tires because the 195/55/16 series stock size is extremely rare and only expensive winter tires are made in that size. So I went a bit wider with 205 series tire and they look awesome with 16 inch rims. Sometimes people say your car has an IS300 like wide and bold stance.

Corolla CE comes on 15" steel and S comes on 15" alum. rims.
I would then expect either to work with XRS.

Just bought an XRS and decided to put winter tires on it after reading some of the posts on this site about OE tires. Put a set of 185/65 15 Blizzak WS-50 on. We had some pretty severe weather last Thursday and these tires are absolutely amazing. Worth every penny. Car felt rock solid, while others seemed to be having difficulty (including 4x4s).

Hope this helps.

I don't think it will.. he was asking if he could fit 14's on his XRS... but anyways.. gotta love fresh winter tires.

I think you are right....14s seem like they would be way to small. Recommended sizes on tirerack.com are 185/65 15's or alternate size 195/65/15's (I think that may be the standard size tire on the Corolla S).

I've got hankook 205/55r16 W300 icebears on my stock XRS rims. They handle great in the snow but with the car being so light it seems like I just float on top of the snow. As for 14" rims I don't think they would clear the brakes on the front. The only way to find out is to try to get one on. As long as you have a millimeter or two clearance you should be ok.
