I don't think its the alternator at all.

Hard to say if they will give you money for the tow.. unless you can prove that it was the alternator at fault.. chances are its not... it sounds like you have other problems.. the alternator should be able to hold the car running on its own power if the battery is dead.. but if you turn off the car with a dead battery, it won't start unless you boost it. If the battery was fine and the alternator was dead.. your car would run until the battery power died. How do you know its not the battery? have you had it tested to see if it holds power.. I don't know how many times I've done that before.. where I could swear its not the battery..then you get it tested and the damn thing was deader than a skunk in the middle of the 401.

it "can" be your battery. even if its low charge, it can still run lights and stereo.they only take watts. but it takes "ALOT" of "amps" to crank an engine over. even with a good alternator, your car will only run for a short time (if at all)with out a battery that can hold a charge. check for charge on battery.(12 to 14 volts) cells may be dead and cannot hold charge any more..have you checked battery acid level? http://members.cardomain.com/mr2bad

Well.. does it make sense that you just replaced the alternator and the car somehow by magic just died again? You never even got the battery tested before.. you just assumed the alternator was at fault.

My old battery would keep the lights on nice and bright, but it wouldnt start, because one of the chambers was dead.

Also why I dont think its the alternator is because if your battery was dead your car wouldnt run at all. When the alternator doesnt work, it will use the battery for ignition and other electronics, and the battery wouldnt last long on an EFI car doing that.

got everything done today.... i think i paid way 2 much $$$ tho i endin up spending almost $400 to get a new rebuild alternator and a new battary (speedy)...... took those mofo's like 7 hours..... battary was like 80 sumthin, alternator was like 260 sumthin, and labor was like 60 sumthin then damn tax n all that shit..... ne ways they did a test infront of me and when the car was on the alternator was only charging at 12amps and the battary was really done n over with... lol ne ways car is back up n running again and the new alternator recharges at 14.2-14.7amps...... but i just found n other prob with my car.... and its the mass airflow sensor.... i took it to my shop today and the car was runnin funny.... so then we had a look at it..... the cars starts jerkin at around 2.5-3rpm.. so then i was like WTF.... so then we played around with the sensor and nothing worked... so then we took a sensor from like a 1996ish sensor and pluged it in...... the car ran great.... but the only prob was that the sensor wont fit my car..... so now i have to go look for a sensor... but i know its gonna cost lots of $$ does ne1 know where i can get a used but workin properly mass air flow sensor for a 4A-GE motor??
