Angry For The Love Of God Help Me Please!!!!

PISSED!!!

I have had nothing but hell with this car, but enough of that. I am desperate for help and you guys seem to know about my type of problems. It is an 89 corrolla wagon. I found some help here but was a little confused. 89 Corolla Hesitation

THE PROBLEM WITH ME CAR

When I go down the road somethimes it is fine. But now and then it will start to shake and die. It is just like someone is turning the key off and on while driving. It is hell and I've spent and ungodly amount of money on it. I just got it back from the shop tonight and took it out of town with my girlfriend. It did fine until we were 30 miles from home and it did it again. I would kill for any information on what it could be and how to fix it. I am desperate and you guys are my only hope.

Thank you,
Andrew

P.S. Here is some of the things I've tried....

air filter
plugs
wires
rotar
distributor
(just came from shop with head job... sadly i should have gotten it and they should've kept the car... j/k)
checked an assload of wires
i forget some of the other things, but you get the idea.

acornstu - I think you need to tell us more. Like when it dies, exactly what do you notice? Do the dash lights shut-off like when you turn the car off? You said it was like someone was turning the key off and on. Well if you did that the electronics inside would shut off ... is that happening? Will it crank right back up and run good, or what?

I agree with chronoti, I think replacing the fuel filter would be a good thing. Not expensive if you DIY. I'm not sure when OBD's started, but I think you car should have some means of displaying OBD codes ... see if you can find out how to check the codes, or have Autozone do it for free.

if you are also running a 4A-F which i presume is carbed, you might want to check on the vacuum of the carb. The hoses might be clogged and/or there might be cracks on it and the springs are prolly stuck. try spraying some WD40 on the springs to loosen it up a bit and choke your carb. this should free thew jettings from debris that is caujsing the problem. try using carb cleaners too (it worked for my 5A motor - WHIZ carb / fuel injection cleaner)
