What are the chances?

Of both headlights burning out at the same time?? Well.. mine went at the same time the bulbs were 2 years old so I'm thinking maybe the bulbs went because it was their time.. but both at the same time?? weird.. anyways I bought another set of the same bulbs to replace the old ones. They're LiteGlow Hyper White H4's, which of course are running inside diamond cut H4 conversion housings.

Now what if it wasn't the bulbs? which is what I'm basically gonna try to find out tomorrow when I replace them.. Is there any low beam relays anywhere I should be aware of? I checked the fuses in the small fuse box inside the engine bay (behind the air box) and they both seemed ok.. I checked to see if there was any other fuses in the kick panel that had anything to do with headlights and there was none.. The final thing I could see being the culprit is the headlight switch. I'm hoping its not cuz I don't wanna get into taking apart the damn steering wheel.

Any ideas? 1989 AE92 Corolla GTS in case you were wondering what car I drive.

Hi Ren69 same thing happened to me. It was so weird. What I would do if I were you is try replacing one first to make sure it does light up and try that same bulb on the other side. What have you got to lose. Still it is very strange. Good luck.

I would suggest using a circuit tester to check for current, starting from behind the headlight plugs to the fuse/relay area.

One night while driving my '81 Tercel, I lost both headlights at the same time.

The negative battery cable was loose and disconnected from the chassis ground.

Once I reconnect it, the problem was fixed but I had to replace the headlight bulbs anyway.

Check your connections carefully before you replace the bulbs.

It would be a shame if wiring problem really existed, then you lose another set of bulbs.

Good luck.

Thanks guys.. I've been wondering myself if I have a bad ground somewhere.. I'm getting too much build up around the positive terminal on the battery. Damn lights.. all I know is that they worked fine yesterday.. this morning they wouldn't light up.

Woohoo! I just got in from changing the bulbs.. turns out the old ones were pretty much ready to go.. at the same time though? but anyways.. if I burn out another set quickly I'll know it was something else.. for now it looks like the old bulbs just gave up finally (2 years! ) the filaments were pretty worn out. Let's see how long the new ones will last me.

WEll the life of the bulbs is averagely the same.. so yeah, they tend to go off about at the same time.

I would have thought maybe one go first then the next one later.. at least that's what always happened to me before.
