USA Some more questions

I have a 98 Corolla, and have a few questions:

1. Is there a replacable fuel filter?
2. The struts are SHOT. ride over bump/dip is horrible bottoms out. is it worth putting 1000 into new struts?
3. The key is not working half of the time( on the door). Could this be a result of someone trying to break in? If it goes in and doesnt work then i jiggle it and sometimes take it out, is there a way to possible fix this?

thanks
-Daniel

1. The filter is on the firewall center of the vehicle. Cant miss it, its silver and has the two rubber hoses coming out of it. Ill assume you know what it looks like and how to replace it properly. 2. how many miles? this is a judgement. I have 140K Miles and im nto replacing mine (shocks/struts are all bad!!) youll just have to deal with the bumps and grinds. however, if your streets are real bad and you are bottoming, it migh tbe better to replace them. are your springs bad? you sound like it might be a spring problem.... 3. my trunk key is having the same problem. after while, keys and locks wear down. may have to get another one and have it rekeyed (wont cost much)

If you don't wanna spend so much for shocks/struts, just get some KYB shocks/struts and get a small shop to do the work. KYB are affordable and give a decent ride.

I got my KYB's for about $360 CDN and my APEX 1.6inch drop springs for about $300 CDN I got someone to install them and then do the alignment on the car after the springs settled down. I spent almost $1000 CDN for everything.

well i have a place nearby that does really good work and would just use toyota parts. I think that the springs are ok, but not sure how to check that. When I hit bad bumps i can hear the springs taking the brunt of the force

oh and with the key, some liquid wrench stuff fixed it, like lubericant

oh and how to replace the filter

to replace the filter, its pretty easy. just plug the tank side (inlet) and disconnect the line from the filter. then plug the motor side (outlet) and disconnect that line. check the lines for cracks, frayed ends, all that good stuff. connect outlet then inlet and yer good to go! it really is that simple! pencils work great for plugging the lines by the way. It may come out with some pressure, so dont freak out, let the car sit overnight if you can to relieve some pressure and also to let the engine cool (gas is flammable dont forget, and a hot motor can cause "problems"!!!)

for your strut problem..

I would actually get new struts and springs.. aftermarket though.. you can probably get tokico blues with tien S.. everything done for around 800 canadian (including alignment, etc) .. or you can go cheaper with KYB GR2's and Tien s...
