USA headlight issue

Yesterday, i noticed that my daytime running lights come on, but after the car engages, all the outside lights go out. I can still turn on the lights through the switch, and eveything works fine. I did notice that once we go to stop, and I turn off the lights, the parking lights stay on, even if the car is shut off. I managed to get them to go off by starting the car back up and driving until the drls fail and shut them off. Fuses all check out. It has been raining here in california lately, so I was thinking that it would be a wet or damp fuse, relay, or connection. If anyone has any ideas, Id appriciate it, othewise, the dealer wants 60 bucks just to figure it out. If it helps, its a 99 Corolla. Thanks.

The headlight control relay, the headlight dimmer relay, and the DRL relays are all in separate boxes under the hood. The tailight control relay and the integration relay are on the backside of the fuse box behind the coin box.

Do you have Twilight Sentinal (auto headlights) ?

PM me with your E-Mail and I will send wiring info for the 00 Corolla (should be similar) It is quite a complex system. Will gladly try to help.

Yeah, auto headlights. They dont seem to work. It has to be a relay, since if it was a bad fuse, the lights wouldnt work at all. I dont know if a bad relay would do this, but this is the only thing that makes sense.

You could try gently tapping on each relay (if the contacts are stuck they may release) You could remove each relay 1 at a time and re-seat them also while you have them out look for moisture in the relays sockets.

You say the DRLs come on but go back off, Is this about the time that the auto headlights would come on (mine is about 20-25 second delay)

I also have the 00 Factory service. (it would be similar and you may need it)

Anyone find the problem? The exact same thing is happening with my 02 corolla. Someone on a different forum said that the headlight harness in the steering column may be bad. I recently installed a keyless entry and tapped into wires in that location so it could be that. Any suggestions?
