Problems With 97 Rolla In Winter :(

hey everyone, i have a major problem with my 1997 corolla dx, hoping somebody would be to help. its obviously winter now, and the doors on my corolla arent taking it so well. in the morning, wenever its very cold, sometimes the doors wont unlock, and even if they do, i wil try to close the door and it WONT CLOSE. so basically i can either not get in my car at all, or i have to drive holding the door closed, for fear it will fly open on the highway. i thoguht at first it might be stuck hinges, so i put some wd-40 all over the hinge mechanisms. it helped a little, but it still happens! anyone have any ideas

It's the door latch and lock actuator that's probably the problem. Do you have power locks? Use graphite lube for the locks, and if you can, hit up your local auto wreckers and try replacing the door lock actuator.

That's not a major problem.. everyone's doors freeze when its really cold outside.. specially if it rains or if its wet flurries and afterwards the temp goes really low.. everything will freeze.. specially locks and windows. Just get some lube like everyone else said, or some lock de-icer liquid.

Agree with REN 100%. Lock de-icer's the only way to do it. Don't bother replacing parts. Usually after you turn the heat on in the car the doors start closing normally.
