When Toyota claimed they wanted to use XRS to attract performance enthusiast young buyers who otherwise would not consider a Toyota, they were not kidding. not Hopefully, this will bring the TRD parts for the regular XRS owners as well. Nice to see Corollas are getting back into compact racing.
The guy who is going to be the racer actually was driving a VW for the last 3-4 years and now is switching to Toyota and collaborating with Toyo Tires and TRD. But, yeah I hope TRD comes out with some great mods to make it a top placer.

I wonder if they will run it as front drive or if they will switch to rear drive.. it seems to be popular with everyone running Solara and Celica drag cars.
No the article says that the front wheel drive compact cars is where it is going. That is why they decided to shift from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive and picked the XRS. Although, I want to see it on a racing track for auto crossing more than drag racing.

I dont see too many aftermarket parts coming in the direction of the Corolla XRS. If they had big plans for the 2ZZ they would have come out years ago with the sporty Matrix XRS

Eh, no offense to any matrix owners on here, but the matrix isn't hardly sporty compared to the corolla.

no offense to any XRS owners, but the trix is alot more sporties than the Corolla. Just look at the aftermarket support. Im not really defending them, Im a corolla owner myself. And no offense, but I hate people who lie about their mods on an internet forum... hows that intake working out for ya ?
The Corolla looks great. TRD will defenetly jump in to sponser the car and fron wheel drive will defenetly work better for it (quicker response, more hp to the wheels, nothing gets lost). Glad to see that K&N are also jumping at the opportunity. I personally have an after market intake with a K&N filter (changed from generic after market filter to K&N) and I love it.

Actually.. to make it easier on both of you.. neither car looks sporty enough. The Matrix is sporty looking only because the 17's make it look so.. with 16's on the XR and base the car looks just like a wagon. The Corolla looks bulky at times and the only thing that makes it sporty is the skirt package on the S and XRS models... had Toyota opted to put the 17's rather than the 16's on the XRS(and even the 15's on the S) the car would have looked just right.
