Question Suspension Talk

Hi,

I am new to this form and to AE86 chassis, but I am a new proud owner of an 85 akai GTS H/B and would like to get some expert advise from members of this board on the suspension setups for this little joy of a car. My plan for the car is to completely restore the body and build it as a street/track machine.

In this thread I would like to concentrate on suspension setups for the track (road racing). What are some good choices based on performance, quality, and price. I have heard some good opinions about the Tokico HTS, as well as short body TRD adj shocks, however I would like to hear if there is any coilover setups that are recommended. Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks!

Yes, I found one in a decent shape. It is actually the one currently posted in autotrader. I had to bring it from Ottawa, but I think it was worth it. It is still all original, the interior is perfect and I am very impressed that all the power features still work. The body will definitively need some attention, but not as bad as I have seen on other cars that old. I will try to come out to the meet. How many people usually show up??? I don't think too many projects would be out there due to weather???

Yes, this little box is definitively a lot of fun. Driving it in a stock form is even rewarding.

You know whats really fun? After you spend $$$ on powertrain and some trick suspension, you find structural damage (rust) on the frame. Oh what a feeling.

Maybe if you live in sunny cali then it isn't much of an issue, but in Ontario, road salt kill AE86s. I don't know if most new users on here have to go through a long time to find a good platform to build on, but I'm sure we all agree these cars aren't easy to come by, cherish it.

BTW your suspension setup is only as good as the frame

well i found my car at a body shop.... i paied 2400 for the car..... no rust (rockers r allllllllllllllllllll there, frame is good) and also got a new paint job in the deal..... red top black bottom.....body is in mint shape and the motor is very clean..... but the driver seat is kinda messed up...... but i guess that's a good price for a car like this

and to wut eg1800 said "Driving it in a stock form is even rewarding."
yes indeed iv goten so many when i drive this baby on the road......

and when u say that in Ont we get many salt on the road..... yes it sucks... but i found a really good way to get over this...... iv been washin my car ever 3rd day at a salf wash place at Kennedy and Finch..... after i wash the car i drive to pmall and go to the underground at the bottom level and let her sit there for a good 2 hours and dry her off..... atless she all clean and makin sure i got all the salt off the car.... im hopin i can keep her for a long time so im tryin to keep her really good... that's wut i have to do coz i dun have a winter beater and im low on cash to get a winter car =*(
but hey its wokin so far
