Where to start on my corolla, any help?

Hey,

I am new here and my name is Nick and of course it is in my user name. Anyway, I just bought a Corolla, year 1996 and in great shape. The only picture that I have is the one from the dealership. I been trying to get out and get some pics.

Wanted to start this thread about where to start fixing the car up. I've been looking around on ebay about body kit, front end lights, tail lights, aftermarket leather front and back, sunroof, rims, sound system, and a new paint job.

I am trying to go for a look of in between a luxury look to a race car look, something in the middle of that. For instance has the sunroof and then has the body kit with the leather seats. Any ideas?

So far the only websites that I've been able to find and help me get start is the following sites:

Sunroof: http://www.webastoshowroom.com/
Rims: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/index.jsp

Those have been the only 2 sites that I've been able to find that can help me with just those 2. I really like tirerack.com because it shows the model of your car with your rims on that model. Is there any websites out there, probably, that has something like tirerack.com, that has your model and then for example has a body kit that is selected on your model? Or a new paint job on your model so that your able to see what colors you like.

If anyone is able to help I surely will appreciate your help. Also can you give me some websites that has those interest that I am looking for?

Also, do you have any ideas on what you feel that could make this corolla better than it already is, I know it can be done, but any creative juices following?

Well, to get a lot of ideas, search. There are tons of ideas for 93-97 corollas (which are all basically the same). To find a pic of your car with a body kit, search on ebay. Search for "93-97 Corolla Body Kit" and a few will show up.

I personally would say go for your sound system first. It will get the most use, and if you like music, it's definately worth it. Then it's all preference and money. Corolla's have some potential, it just takes a lot of money to get the cool stuff done.

I myself (considering I've been looking at buying a 96-97 Corolla) would lower the car first.. probably like 1.5 inches or a bit more. Then maybe get some 16inch rims. I'd probably do sound and security after (or before the wheels anyways.. )

I'm not sure about a bodykit as I've only seen maybe one or 2 that would appeal to me, I would rather spend that money on a decent motor swap or maybe even those cool headlights those guys in Hong Kong got in their corollas.

Well, I appreciate your help and ideas. Yeah of course I love music, so that is a good idea, get the system first, your right about the most use. Anyway, if anyone else has any ideas that will help my search get quicker results, please by all means send them to me.

If you want send me some of your pics with your modifications done to your corolla. Anyway, Ren69 and Ostornadoe appreciate your help.

Also I've noticed as I've searched and looked at other ideas of cars, that only 1 car that I seen had a sunroof. Is that telling me that it might be a bad idea to get a sunroof in the car or just dont want to spend the money or not an interest? Just wondering.

It's probably pretty difficult to install a sunroof and most people don't want to pay and do that much work for the benefits of one. If you want a sunroof, then go for it!

Go to cardomain.com and enter the make and model of your ride and check out other corollas. I got a few ideas from some of the members there.

Nick, I would suggest you enjoy your ride first. Get to know the car--how she behaves, handles, etc... That way you'll know where to improve on. There's nothing better than correcting a mistake or flaw. In that case, find them. Hunt them down.

When you've found them, then you can say you can start improving. I don't see any point in improving something you haven't found a fault in. But this is just me. Hope this helps.

One thing I would love to do when I just got a car is to reserve an entire day just for it. Clean it inside out, learn how it's assembled. That way you can easily DIY it.

i perfectly agree with karugs. get to know the car inside out and look for flaws or noises and work on those first.

one simple word for you: 20v

Expensive, but worth the effort if you want more fun out of the engine.

Good to hear you're ahead of us. How much would you want to spend? How far are you willing to go? If I were you I'd change small items--headlight upgrade, clear corners, etc...but if you really want to jump in I'd go for performance mods. And the sound system upgrade sounds good too.

Well, I am not going to racing in this car, so it will not be a hyped up performace car. The only thing that I will be doing to this car is for show and travel. Well just to another state for family and what not, dont know yet. But, The only things that I am really wanting to do first is:

1. Sound System (CD Deck, Front and Back Speakers, 1 sub, 2 amps)
Or what are you thoughts?
2. Rims (Perferrably 17" rims)
3. Sunroof
4. Body Kit inc. new hood and Z3 side panels
5. Paintjob all around
6. Exterior upgrades (lights front and back new mirrors or something)
7. Aftermarket Leather Seats
8. Dash Kit

And what ever else I can do for it.

Unless I am missing something then please by all means join in and lets make this car look right on this forum.

Nick

A good thing to get when you invest in a sound system is also a pretty good alarm to make sure people don't come and steal the system that you just put in...

or .. with that money.. you can get..

SPINNER HUBCAPS and NEONS with type R stickers lol .. third time I suggested that ....I'm only kidding.. becoming a my trademark lol

well anyways there are many things you can do .. personally I would work on suspension and then engine first and then to the other goodies.. (I did the exact opposite lol I put sound in first) .. well it's really up to you.
