Extended Warranty 03 Corolla?

I am helping my daughter to purchase her first Toyota. We have found and agreed to purchase an 03 Corolla CE that has 33,000 miles on it. I am purchasing from a Cadillac/Nissan dealer that had just taken it on trade the afternoon we arrived. I was able to see it prior to being detailed and cleaned. It appears to be quite sound mechanically and drives superb. My question is do I purchase the extended warranty they are offering? It seems quite expensive- $1700 to take the bumper to bumper to 75,000 miles and 6 years warranty. This will be my second Toyota purchased within the last 6 months; however, my car was bought new- 04 Camry. Anyone have feelings one way or another about the extended warranty? Is it worth the kind of money they are asking?

You may want to check with Toyota. As long as the original btob hasn't expired, I think you can purchase from them, at a much lower price. If you were buying a Nissan or Caddy I would recommend you get it, but The Rolla shouldn't give you that much trouble.

I own an '03 Corolla S. Don't think you need extended warranty; visually check car, open hood, bring someone mechanically incline if possible. Ask who used to own the car (what kind of driver) and for any maintenace records, if available. 03corollas have the following:

Basic Coverage: Components other than normal wear and maintenance items are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles from the date of first use.

Powertrain Coverage: Your engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, seatbelts and air bags are covered for 5 years/60,000 miles from the date of first use.

Rust-Through Coverage: Corrosion perforation of sheet metal is covered for 5 years/unlimited miles from the date of first use. Federal Emission Coverage: Components under the federal emission defect warranty are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles from the date of first use and specified major emission control components are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles from the date of first use. Specified major emission control components under emission performance warranty are also covered for 8 years/80,000 miles from the date of first use. In addition, emission performance warranty is applicable for 2 years/24,000 miles from the date of first use in states and local jurisdictions that require a periodic EPA-approved inspection and maintenance program.
