Need opinions: Vehicle License (Plate) Renewal

I just wanted to ask everyone's opinion on license plate renewals.

I own an 85 toyota corolla gts/gze swap/yada yada yada.

I just got the notice from the MTO today that my license plate sticker needs to be renewed. Also I need an emission test. Furthermore, the application is not valid after the third week of february.

My question is, since the car is stored for the winter, could I just let my plates expire and just renew them in the summer and also have the emissions done in the summer? Would it just be like when I first got the car: get a 10 day permit, get emissions and go register the plates that I already have? Or, am I missing something?

If that's not possible, can someone hook me up with an emissions test facility they know of (*wink *wink)

NONONO DO NOT GET YOUR CAR EMISSION TESTED!!! if your car is a 1985 since its 2005 now after 20 years the car is named as a classic..!! i got my 85 GTS at the end of Dec and i was on temp plates for a few weeks and once 2005 hit i went to get plates for my car and they didnt ask me for ne e test paper coz after 20 years the car is calssified as a classes and u DO NOT NEED EMISSION TEST! so save yourself sum money and spend it on gas or sumthin.... lol if u dun believe me just call the MTO and ask for yourself but im sure im right coz i didnt have to get the car e-tested when i got plats coz the from 1985 or older the car is a classic and u do not need it....

thanks guys. I know about the 20 year rule and the classic status of my vehicle, it's just that when I got the vehicle license plate renewal application form it had that red star beside it. Meaning: Drive clean emission test required.

I was like WTF? I had the *test* done last year and got my plates also and they need another one? I even phoned their 1-888 number and clicked on what year vehicles need to be tested and all it said was 1986 this 1986 that.

90celica: So what you're saying is that in the spring, all I have to do is re-register the plates that I have on it right now, correct?

Cool. Bday's in Feb. So I'll just do it when I'm ready to drive this thing.

Who knows, I may be selling this around that time if I can find a te27 or any other 70s corolla that's decent.

When did you do etest last time? The cert is valid for a year. You can use it to renew again.

Let's just say that that is not an option.
