Question Question on corolla taillight covers...

Hey all,

I have a question regarding the taillight covers you can get for the 04 corolla. I just ordered it and it's on its way. It's shown here: http://www.i-m-racing.com/alstyltailli.html

Is it legal to have the cover on the taillight? I'm asking because I know that you have to have a reflective piece showing on the taillight for it to be legal. I know that if you have a cover that shrouds the entire taillight like those smoked taillight covers, they are illegal because they mask the reflective piece and the lights themselves. Now with the taillight cover i have, it doesn't do that since the covers mask everything except the lights... Would having this kind of taillight cover be illegal because I guess it does somewhat mask some reflective pieces of the lights?

Please let me know!

Thanks.

Very nice!! those would look good on my XRS, not sure about where you lice but I would think those would be legal here in Canada, I see lots of Impalas around that have the same type of thing on them and are sold by the dealerships.

One question, why did you buy them if you didn't know if they are legal or not?...I suggest that when they arrive before paying $35 a pint for matching paint and putting them on take the car and the covers to your local police dept or highway patrol and show/ask them...I have done that before with exterior lighting..It will save you a ticket and the cost of painting them....hope they will let you send them back if they are illegal...JMHO....Raddman

yeah, i hear ya. I bought the altezza taillights but they screwed up my order so I returned it for a refund... and they apparently didn't have the ones I wanted so I was misled by their website. Those covers were actually a sudden buy right after the screwups with the taillights...

I'm not sure why they would be illegal, considering that you see all of the lights clearly... brake, reverse, and turn signals... and they're not masked either. The impalas, you're right, have a similar backend layout with the lights and the Skyline GTR has that too... stock. So I dunno.

am i right on this or what? i've been doing some research online and from what i've read shows that many people got pulled over having taillight/headlight covers because they were blacked out ones. the legal issue that is nation-wide says that both the rear and front lights must be visible and not reduced/altered in anyway in that aspect of illumination for safety reasons. that's why the totally blacked out covers on the lights are illegal because they reduce the visibilty of the lights.

what do you guys think?
