I have already added a few mods to my car. WeaponR SR intake, Enkei RS6 rims with BFG G-force rubber, V-Force Power Control Module, Inline Filter, valve cover filter, yet I dont think I will ever get good power out of a 4afe. I have a few questions... I did my intake some time ago, today I was messing around with my exhaust and I noticed this big black box thing right where the stock air box hooked up to. It is the driver side just behind the front bumper, outside the engine bay, I had to take off the plastic wheel well cover to get a good look at it... any ideas what it could be? It doesn’t seem to have any wires going to it nor is it anywhere in the Chilton’s manual. This is the big question. Is it possible to swap cylinder head? I have a 4AFE and I would like to swap out the F head with a G head from a 91 corolla GTS 4age. I found a good deal on a rebuild 4age head and I was wondering if the block is the same. I heard two different things one site said that you could swap them out since they are built off the same 4A block but another said there are "differences". Have any of you done this kind of thing? Please point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for the advice
Well, yes you can swap the head on, but that's pointless. Just swap in the whole engine since the bottom end is much better. The only reason to do a head swap is if you have a 7AFE and want to keep the 1.8 liters.
That big black box is what stores crash data so that when you crash they can figure out what happened. Just kididng. It's probably your air silencer, it's like a muffler for the intake. That's why your intake is so much louder with a cone filter, there's no silencer on it.
For best results with your car, the two engines you really should think about getting are either the 4AGZE, which is a 16v supercharged 1.6 out of the JDM Corolla Levin, or the 4AGE Silvertop (or Blacktop), 20v n/a 1.6.
^^^ man, your posts are getting almost as pointless as some of mine, lol
it can be done..... you would need to block the oil return line on the back of the smallport head.... you'll need a new exhaust manifold and all new exhaust..... you'll need the 4age intake manifold, injectors, fuel rail and i would suggest the 4age fpr.... you'll need the throttle body (and if you want to use the 4age ecu you'll need the TPS for that motor as they are different)........ you'll also need a 4age distributor.... if you plan to use the 4afe ecu you'll need to match the inner gears up so the teeth match your 4afe distributor......
it's much easier just to find the entire motor and swap it outright

The black box in fender is resonator. You can take it out but no reason unless you gonna put a CAI there
Get header, highflow cat big resonator and a straight through muffler. The little car will fly on hwy.
Check my Yahoo Photos
straight through mufflers wouldnt give you gains, but it sure as hell will give you noise.
If you want something quiet and potential, you could fit a muffler from a bigger displacement car, say a 3.0, it would flow helluva lot more than the stock muffler, but it would be quiet because the muffler would actually work. Straight through designs dont work as a rear muffler...
Swapping the engine will take a lot of work and time, you will also need to replace other parts during the process..
Consider other options before going through with this.. I did my research and swapping to a 4AGE isn't worth it. You might as well go with a 4AGZE (Supercharged AG) since you're spending the money..
Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with the whole swap next spring after I get my degree, but for now I think I will just mess around with the 4afe and see what I can get out of it. I mean if I blow the motor no big deal, all the more reason to do the 4agze swap. I found that PaceSetter makes headers for the 4afe so I'll try to put together a 2.5" exhaust (mix and match to make a set). One more thing... Why is it people feel the need to point and laugh at corollas with mods? It makes me angry, when it happens to me.
Pacesetter is good for highend, highway driving. Lose quite a bit lowend. Don't know if you can find any 4-2-1 header instead. Pacesetter is 4-1, I got very simillar setup as you
Oh drop the SR and make a CAI. Too much hot air with the SR.
yeah it is the sensor for the air that is going into your engine.....it does not matter if u don;t put it back but if u get it air check it will show that nothing is going into ur engine....but its all good try headers it is much better.....

Because Toyotas are economy cars, especially those with the F head...so most people out there don't see the potential they have.....and for some reason they have it in their heads that if it isn't a Honda, it CAN'T be fast, not that it isn't fast but that there is NO WAY it could EVER be fast
But have you noticed that you actually have some work done to your car as far as mods go and the people laughing prolly have nothing but a Fart Can for a muffler and thats their idea of performance......strange, sad little people.....I like to give them pennies so they can go get more rice at the market

Blueprint the engine. That would solve your problems. A well-balanced engine will give you optimum performance throughout the rpm band and stable as ever!
