I seem to be the one who's always asking question about the clutch on the XRS anyways i was doing research on the owners of the Matrix XRS and they all pretty much stated that they replaced there clutch really early like between 3000mi-30,000mi. Some of them said the clutch was better on the Celica GTS due to the 2500lb weight. Since the Matrix is 2800lbs it takes more to move the car. Do i need to worry about the Corolla XRS's clutch wearing out early ?

I have to give them benefit of the doubt. Let's face it, the XRS throttle/clutch pedal takes some getting used to. The gas pedal is overly responsive and sensitive and the clutch grabs very suddenly. In order to avoid jerking, people tend to grind the clutch...LOL Add to that, the heavy 2840 + lbs of weight for the Matrix XRS, I would say there must be some legitimacy here.

but honestly, 3000mi.....give me a break......thats either extremely faulty clutch or very bad driving. What about heavy sports cars like the 300zx, you dont see people changing the cltches on those every 3000mi
^^^^
The 300zx has a clutch that is better suited for the application also. I'm not sure what to think about this particular clutch just yet, seems like a lot of people are having problems out of it. But I can't drive stick for shit, and I'm at 6k miles with no problems, so these people having it go out at 3k either a)Have a faulty clutch from the factory, b)abuse the hell out of it, or c)can't drive. I plan on going aftermarket after this one, mainly because from what I hear they aren't much firmer, but hold up a lot better.

They have heavier clutches. No?? Don't get me wrong, going back to a stick shift 8 years after I last drove a stick car at the age of 18 ( I learned how to drive on my dad's 4 speed manual 1983 Corolla SE), I really punished my clutch for the first two weeks..LOL. The smell of the clutch burning was all over the place, but after 4300 KM, my clutch has broken in nicely and is working perfectly. It is indeed quite forgiving. I think maybe it is not heavy duty enough for the Matrix XRS.

"um ive been through 5 clutches..and i olny have 30,000...but i guess thats just me!!!" <--- haha yeh it is just him.
"We are pursuing complaints to our State (PA) Attorney General. I am curious if anyone else has done so or considered filing a class action suit against Toyota?" <-- no offence but you americans will sue anybody for anything.
Wow! look at the number of people who burned their clutch under 10K miles. This is just crazy. I know a large number of Corolla XRS owners and a number of them are lofting at 10K miles and none of them has ever said a word about bad clutch. Go figure!

Anyone else filled their XRS interior with the smell of burning clutch? It's not as frequent now at 9K miles, but still when I get the itch to drop it at redline , that smell thats around you returns.
Before I bought my Corolla I test drove a 04 Matrix XRS. The dealership had no 05 Corolla XRSs available to test drive so they suggested I try out the used Matrix as it had basically the same drive train as the Corolla. The Matrix still felt very solid with 49,500k (approx. 30,000 miles) on it. The clutch did, however, feel it was slipping. Hope that this doesn't happen with the Corolla.

Come on!! There is no clutch around that will survive being dropped at 9000 rpm. Gezus...this is a $20,000 Corolla..not some $20 Million F1 car.
Yeah I've burned my clutch...but it was user error and the RPM's were too high to engage.
Crazy how people are visiting their state's attorney general office....good luck to them.
