Hey all, as some of the constant tn corolla forum readers know, i'm always asking how to get my current 4AC engine fixed...wont happen no more, that **** is ****'d
I found a junkyard with countless 4AF and 4AFE engines but i'd like to know HOW i can keep my RWD setup with this. No worries about dropping the engine, i know some mechs who'll take care of it, electronics, harness, ecu, ignitors etc, etc, etc. Before i ask this duds, i wanna know what kind of adaptation do i need (new tranny?) in order to have a RWD MT, like i have right now.
First of all...could i make the swap? 2.0l vs 1.6l? I was told its been done before.
see, that's the thing, the blacktop will cost too much...i can get this 4af for $200 with harness ecu all the pumps, pulleys, belts, engine mounts, transmission...they are still on cars with around 60,000mi to 150000mi. the afe engine would cost me $500.
and since they are FWD cars, i'm worried about adapting those things to my rwd setup. CAN IT BE DONE?
what are you talking about?? FR layout means front mounted engine and rear wheel traction...FF is what you prob mean...in which case you are wrong too. The 20V 4AGE engine is a FWD and has been adapted to RWD. THIS is what i'm interested in knowing.
back to topic, what's associated with this 4AF(E) rwd swap?
well youd need to make the radiator fan work with teh FF waterpump setup, have the thermostathousing run differently lots of hoses would probably need some rerouting, you'd need to somehow get the distributor mounted so that it wont hit the firewall. Exhaust manifold would have to be swapped as would the throttle linkage.
Yup, i was seriously considering the 4AGE, but that swap will cost me about $900 in parts...AFE would cost $250in parts
FLAHSMaN: thanks, i always knew the intake would face the wrong way...reroutng and everyhing should be done by mechanic...i as thinking of cutting part of the firewall so i woulnt have to move the distributor. <-same issue as the 20V silvertop
if you are looking for a tranny, a K-50 or a T-50, both rwd and mount to the 4ag's, will work with the setup. but screw the 4af(e) and get a 4ag, even get a fwd one out of a geo, they won't charge you much for those.
edit: if you have a five speed 4AC you have the K-50 tranny. BUT that tranny can't handle the power of say like 200 hp...or around there

i'm sure neither the 20V nor the 16v will produce enough power to break this tranny, in which case i'll find the T-50 (gts tranny?)
So lemmi get this right. other than the moving, rerouting and firewall cutting (damm seems like lots of work), and using my stock tranny, all that'll be missing, would be engine mount "brackets" (frontal mount wong get used right?) and i'm sure watever's left my mech will figure out and charge me for it...seems like we got most things covered.
I just scrapped the AFE idea and will start to shop for 4AGE/AGZEs. hopefully i'll find a set with most things i'll need for about $900...ebay has some candidtes ...figure $1000installing. AND this is money i can get back when i sell the car...people will jump all over that $3500sticker
