whats a good stiff performance spring that I can buy for the 89 ae92 GTS.
I cant lower it becasue the struts I bought wont work properly
So any suggestions?

the suspension techniques only bring it down about 1.5" or so..... nice ride height on my ae92...... they work fine with the regular kyb gr2's i have on it......

I was told by Gabriel Tech's that I shouldnt put a lowering spring on the struts I have becuase I'll change the struts suspension rate.? or maybe he said spring rate......anyways....he sayed that the strut wouldnt be able to do its job properly and that I would problay bottom the strut out.
toyotaspeed90 are the struts your running...an aftermarket oem replacement..(travel the same) or are they made to have a lowering spring.....
Or am I just a complete idiot!!!!
But if those suspension techniques work for yours then maybe I'll look into gettinga set of those.

i have eibachs and kyb gr2's on my mr2.... i really don't like them..... really do like the ST ride much better...... i believe they are cold wound though.... which not many of the "cheaper" companies do....

You could mess around with some different bumpstops, that enage a bit sooner, smoother than the oem ones, in effect increasing the spring rates.
I think H&R has a line of the foam units, but I would try a junkyard if budget is a concern.
Lowered cars rely heavily on the bumpstops, heck, the average lowering spring isn't that much stiffer overall than a stock spring. Just make the same changes front and rear, so you keep the same difference in spring rate from front to rear.
The aftermarket generic-KYBs are all valved with the same resistance values(50/50 compression/rebound)so you'd probably be better with oem struts unless you had the matching car/springs by chance.
Yeah looking at toyotaspeed90 's car there that would be perfect height Im looking for,
with the springs you bought do you notice any tire rub anywhere? any weird noises?
what about handling? any notice in increased understeer?
I think I've found my springs...now I have to find a distrubutor. and hopefully they wont cost too much!!
Any other spring suggestions.
Ohh I read H&R tech page about bumpstops....or "foamy" as they call it. didnt really get it....but thats cool

Sniper.. I got KYB struts and APEX springs on my car, they're a 1.6inch drop, basically about the same as T-speed90's drop. Actually I think mine settled at about 1.8inch since I used to travel with 2 other people in the car for a while after I got mine dropped. Its low.. but not ricer low.. but I still scrape in some places, specially if there's snow.

I also have trouble finding suitable shocks for lowering springs. In Taiwan we have a variety of springs to choose from, but almost no choice for shocks. The most often recommended combination is H&R+Kyb Excel (Kyb excel, I believe, is the same product as Kyb GR2 you can find in the US.) The damping is not enough, and it's common that the shocks can't last over 30,000 or 40 miles. We do have a better choice, KYB New SR, which has a higher damping force and a more reasonble compression-rebound dampling ratio. However, the New SR model is terribly expensive, at around US$750 per set (converted from local currency), approximately as expensive as the Koni shocks sold in the US for corolla.
i havnt heard good responses from eibach allthough alot of people have put them on the corollas... im thinking intrax springs... whats your guy's input on these... what would be the best route for shocks without soending alot of $$$

Well guys, its done. I've lowered my rolla.
I stuck with the Gabriel OEM replacemnt performance strut and put the Suspension Techniques springs on them. Dropped the car about an inch an half in the front and a good 2 inches in the rear. Looks really good. Nice and clean. Theres about an inch or so of wheel well. Exactely how I wanted it to look. and it handles so much better now. Put the summer tires abck on (Yoko ES100) and its pretty styling now. Just gotta take her in for a major detailing. Lots of small littel rust spots from the winter and the brake dust particles. I dont have a digital camera but I'll try to track one down and take some pics for you guys. Thanks for all your help in helping me decide what springs to put on her,

ANy of you guys that lowerd your Rolla. did you need to get camber kits for your car? I just took my car into the local college to get a free alignment, and they didnt do a very good job (surprise, surprise! ) Anyways, I took the data to a reputable shop here in town and we were discussing the alignment that they did, and that it needd more tweakiing. But the guy suggested that it might need a camber kit? or something about rollas having lots of adjustablity.
I dont know , am I making sence?
