Swap in a 2zz-ge from a Celica GTS. That'll be your whole $3,500, but it'll be sick.

The 2001 corolla probably isn't the fastest, compared to an 03+ corolla. (I have one) But you could probably make it go at least as fast as the 160hp Scion tC with just 1k:

-Catback
-Ground wire
-Cam shaft
-Cold air intake

They give around 10hp each item. However, when I said "go as fast as a tC", that's if the upgrades are done on a 03+ corolla. For your 01 corolla, you'd probably need something more...turbo kit? 2k should get you a good one.

You can also go for the 2ZZ-GE, keep in mind though that the 2ZZs tend to be less responsive in the low rpm range, meaning you'd probably have to push the gas pedal more than you're used to, at least until it hits the Lift.

Erm, first off cold air intake will not give you 10 hp, no matter what.

Second, an 01 Corolla is the same as an 03+ Corolla, unless you have the 05 XRS.
The difference being only about 5 hp and direct injection on the 03+ models. So basically anything applicable to your Corolla will be applicable to his, sans chassis stuff.

3500 would be enough for a turbokit too.

Fellers -

Tell me about this 'ground wire.' Its probably not as evident as it sounds, and I want to know more about it. Does it give anymore h.p. than gauge stickers on the A-Pillar cover?

Personally I don't have a ground wire kit, but you can look for one on ebay if you want to know what they look like. They're always advertised to give 5-8HP gain. Does it really give more gains? I don't know since I never tried it...

And not everything that can apply to a 03+ corolla can apply to an 01 corolla.

Ground wire kits will not give you any more HP. They would only be worthwhile to get if you have a system and your lights dim when the bass hits.

Definately go turbo or swap. If you know how to install a turbo kit, then $3.5k can go a long ways.

I don't know if I'm right or not, but someone told me before if you install a turbo kit, you'd have to do oil changes in half the expentancy limit. He had a 2000 VTEC civic Si. Maybe he loved his car too much to say that...

Advertised horsepower, especially on ebay, is never true. You will probably get more horses out of new sparkplug wires before a ground wire upgrade.

And I said almost everything will apply, not counting chassis stuff, since the engine is the same.

You say as if your car will be as fast as a tC with a groundwire, cam upgrade, intake, and exhaust. Doubt it. Also you say that with all these items on the 01, it still would need a turbo kit to match an 03 with the same stuff.

Basically, my point is stop taking eBay auctions or any other after market parts ads from obscure companies for fact.

Research stuff before buying or advising others. Otherwise you might one day go and buy some speed chip that advertises 20hp gain and mess up your engine.
