I had a 2000 corolla Ve two weeks ago, and it has 83K miles on its clock. some post in this forum said timing belt should be changed at 90K miles, but my Toyota maintains menual does not mention about the timing belts on corolla, does 2000 VE has a timing belt? how difficulty it is to change it by DIY?

You don't have a timing belt. It's also easy to check if you have one or not. Look at your engine from the alternator side. If you can see plastic cover on that side of the engine you would have a belt. If everything is metal then you have a chain. My aunt has a 99 corollas and it does not have a belt. It has a chain. I can see that you are in the U.S.A so it is the same car.

I have another question: the car has a cruise control but it does not work. I almost sure it was a after market one installed by previous owner. on the driver's sider firewall under the hood, there is a valve or motor (I do not know the exact name), which must be a Cruise control parts, because there is a cable connected to the throttle, it has a vaccume tube connected to it, and it also has some electric wires connected, but there is a two pin connector which does not connected to nothing, is it a spped signal connector? if it is, where is the speed signal come from?

It is strange that there is a wire jumped from fuse box (inside the car, on the left side of steering whee) to some where, I think it must related to the after market Cruise control instalation, Toyota should not have jumped wires from fuse box!

OK, the brake light works fine.

any clues are preciated, if you need, I can post some pics.

For sure aftermarket, OEM is on passenger side. The speed sensor pulses are available at the inst. cluster wiring.(IF that is what you need) Did they happen to leave a users manual ?

The previous owner just leave a TOYOTA manual, nothing about Cruise control menaul. I did find a two pin male connect inside the car, which should match exactly the female connect on the cruise control motor(?) I mentioned in my previous post, and it is labled " to control switch, 6 pin", but I am not sure if it is the speed pulse signal or if I need this signal.

I will try to post some picture tomorrow, never post a picture before, can I just copy and past it?
