ive aquired a 90 corolla and it has a new(er) motor in it. in a local junk yard all the celica gt's have the same motor (1.6L 16valve efi, large intake manifold/plenum, sohc) and i was wondering if that was one of the options that came with the car, or if the guy that had it before me just upgraded. its not to slow, but its still not fast. 1st is powerful, 2nd is ok, 3rd is slugish, 4th doesnt work(grinded out)never did(while iv had it) and 5th is obviosly just for crusin'. on the dyno at work it hit 144whp. i have a cai(cold air intake) and i ran my exuast at work. i know the car had the option of either a 130bhp 1.6L, or a 102bhp 1.6L, both are sohc. could this be an upgaded motor?

That's probably a 4AFE which came in the Corolla SR5 (not the GTS) and the Corolla sedans.. the motor also came in the base Celicas. The Corolla GTS came with a 4AGE which says TWINCAM 16 VALVE and TOYOTA 1600 on it, and by the way it wasn't SOHC.

Why don't you post some pics so we can actually tell rather than guess what motor you got.
