i've had my 89 gts for a bout a year now and have been thinking about an engine swap for a while. through my searches, i've decided that preferably, i'd like to swap in a 4agze out of an ae101 levin. i was just curious about approximate costs, how much shop time this is likely to take, and also just peoples general experience with engine.
thanks in advance for any input,
noddygts
You're in the GTA... hmm.. lets see.. probably about $1500-4000 CDN for either motor or a front clip (I would rather a clip). A decent shop that specializes in Toyota would charge probably about $2000 to do the swap(I wouldn't trust just about anyone else, my buddy just got his motor replaced on his 95 Prelude at some shop named JK.. holy shit! newbs!)
I would set aside probably about $5000-6000 CDN if I was you.
do it yourself, save some money, keep pride in your car
my 4agze (ae101) cost less than $2000 including price of the car, the laptop, motor/tranny, stand alone ecu, 2nd tranny & axles, all fluids (gear oil like 4 times), battery relocation, eibach springs, new clutch master cylinder, rebuilding the slave cylinder, etc etc etc.....

a lot of times this is not true. there are lot of guys out there that try to chew more than they can swallow. if you're not mechanically inclined better leave it to the pros. i've seen people trying to do engine swaps that some of them took at least 2 years to finish a swap. not good if that's your only car. ok if it's a project car. just my $.02

got no garage, no tools, no hands on experience (only a little theory read here and there), and no spare car, well not yet at least! looks like this one's headed to the shop lol
fuck you guys.... i work hard for what i have...... if i can't afford it then i make work what i have..... what has come out of it? obviously a car that's a shitload faster than yours...... why don't you only make comments if you're actually helping
$700 motor & tranny
$400 e51 tranny & axles
$200 megasquirt ecu
$200 laptop from ebay (fujitsu stylistic 3400)
$120 used eibach springs
$100 for the mr2
$40 new clutch master cylinder
$0 for knowing how to rebuild a slave cylinder
$0 for knowing how to do the swap... and what i didn't know i learned (mainly megasquirt)
then give or take some on fluids/cabling
