Oil and tyre recomendations for a UK t-sport

Hi folks,

Having introduced myself in the 'introduce yourself here' forum I would like some info. please.

1- What oil is reomended for a UK spec 1.8 2004 Corolla t-Sport. I understand the best is Mobil One but this is a very silly price and as I like to change every 3,000 miles something a bit more cost effective would be good.

2 - tyres - the standard ones look as if they are 'directional' is this correct?? and what would forum members recommend as replacements when the time comes. Mine is fitted with the std, 16" aloys.

Thanks in anticipation.

My understanding is that T-Sport is a hatback with the Celica GT-S 2ZZ GE Engine much like the Matrix XRS hatchback with 2ZZ engine in NA. Right?? Here are a few suggestions for you:

1. If the car has more than 8000 miles, use Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30 or 10W-30 since it causes less friction and for such a high revving engine, synthetic oil is a must. I have been forbidden to put synthetic on my 05 Rolla XRS yet since I only have 4000 KM on mine since the engine is not allowed to break in properly with synthetic.

2. Depends on what kind of tires are you looking for?? performance, all season, winter etc.?? Mine came with Michellin Pilot Primacy summer with the 16 alloys. They are pretty good, but they need to be wider (205mm in width instead of 195mm).

why would you want to change every 3000miles on a modern car :P 5W-30/5W-40 would be good.

Habit really (And a number of years driving a diesel)- but yes you are probably correct every 3,000 is probably not required on such a modern engine.

Some tyre recommendations would still be good though. Thye would need to be something suited to UK road conditions ie road surface soaking wet one minute and perfectly dry the next - a good 'all rounder really'

PS Good forum this very busy and two answers back very quickly - cheers.

The stock 05 Corolla XRS Michellin Pilot V rated summer tires are great in rain as well. I just wish they had been 205mm instead of 195mm with the 16 inch alloys. I would highly recommend 205/50/16 Michellin Pilots (if it does not snow in your area since these tires do not hold up in snow).
