Hey everybody
I was wondering what the differences are between the 4-afe engine and the 7a-fe engine.(Other than the displacement). I'm asking this because i have a 93 Corolla. I paid for the 1.8 liter "package" which included the 1.8 liter engine. But the other day i looked under the hood and the label on the distributor said "4a-fe"??!!!
So to make a long story short...could the label on the distributor be wrong or was i totally jipped out of my money? Any help is appreciated

i think everything is pretty much similar,

if you wanted to really know, remove the engine, look at the fly wheel and see if it has 6 bolts or 8. if there are 8, its a 4a, if it has 6, it is a 7a.

or you could just look at the block, see if there is a marking where it mounts to the tranny, with a stamping if it says, 4a/7a, etc.

i think the dizzy's from both engines are the same.

I'm pretty sure that the engines share everything, except for the block, crank, rods, and maybe the pistons or headgasket too. The 7A-FE is basically a stroked version of the 4A-FE. Both of the flywheels are 6 bolt too.

arn't all 4a blocks sharing the same crank, hence the 8 bolt crank/flywheel?

i am sure the 7a is only 6blt.

Thanks for the input guys......I think i really have a 1.6 liter....which pisses me off since i paid for the 1.8. I think i'll talk to the local Toyota dealership and try to sort it out.

The 7a-fe has a stronger block crankshaft, rods, and pistons than the 4a-fe. Couple people have succesfully swapped a 4a-ge head to the 7a block and were able to get significant gains in hp and tq. this cannot be done to the 4a-fe engine.

To answer your question just check your block for the engine code. both motors share many accessories. (You might have changed your distributor or cap and put a 4a-fe one on and not even realized it)
