Hey, I'm wondering if it's possible to install 6x9's in the back of my 96 Corolla...I've replaced the 6.25"s and when I did I noticed on the insides there's an area that looks like it's made to hold 6x9s. But there's no mount for them. Is it possible to install them? Do you need a special mount? If so, where can I get them?
Also, if this is possible...Would I be able to just splice into the existing wire for the 6.25"s (leaving them in) and also adding 6x9s?
Any answers or advice is welcome...Thanks in advance
Forget the rear speakers, just put some good speakers up front running from a good amp. Think about it, do you ever have your back to the stage in a rock concert?
6x9 are really important in the rear
but the holes in the back are not suposed to be for 6x9 speakers
i ahd mine installed there cuz the custom plate for fitting them on each side would have cost me like 200$, so i said fuck you then put em there
still has a great fucking sounds but would have been better on each side

Ok so the holes that are on either side of the brake light lamp aren't for 6x9s? Then what are they for? Cause they sure do look like it...To be sure we're talking about the same ones... O=={}==O ok that's a top view of the back...The O's on each far side are the 6.25"s. The {}'s are the brake light lamp. the =='s on each side in between are these two big holes underneath the covering that really look like 6x9 holes, just missing the mount for it.
Flashmn...It's hard to get really good speakers installed in the front when the biggest size you can get are 3.25"s...It really limits you.
Cabanon, are you saying that you did have 6x9s installed in those holes in the back? Or that it was possible but too expensive? I'm not understanding you...
I really would like to know what those holes are for, and if it's possible to get a custom mount for 6x9s to put in them.
b) It's possible to put 6x9s in those holes, but you'll need to mount them by yourself somehow. Why do you want 6x9 so bad? If you want bass get a subwoofer, otherwise just stick with 6.5's.
c) Flash, enough with the rock concert analogy, jeez. Some people want speakers in the back, so they get sound all around them, not just from their feet. Just cause you have no rear speakers, doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't get any. Plus there IS the only 4" deal with the AE102s.
Btw, if you wanna see a front speaker install tutorial, look for the link to it in the sticky on the Corolla forum.

I'm thinking about doing it... Put the speakers ontop and then have the dash refinished with a special finish they use in rallycars. Its kinda like cloth, but it isnt. They clean the dash througly, then apply some sort of adhesive, then with electricity pull this fiber on it. Very smooth, non-glare, but also very expensive. Being over 200bucks for just the dash :P
Plus there IS the only 4" deal with the AE102s. <- as with all other corollas too
i do have 6x9 installed in the rear
and i do have 6.5 + tweeter installed in the front
and yes 6x9 makes a big difference
lisen to some Rammstein and you'll see
the sound move from any speakers. it turns around you all the way
anyway thats my opinion
i do also have 2x 10" alpine type-s subwoofers for bass and it looks pretty good and it sounds badass
cheers
