Despite the recent rash of accidents involving "street racing"; the PACER program which only antagonizes young import hobbiest and misleads the general public about todays youth; and shows that gloriy rice a la Darknights, there's still hope for the import scene. Today as I was working on that damned stripped nut (and btw, it's still stuck on there) I noticed a rumble at the front of the street. Our house is the last on the block and leads only to a dead end so it's quite isolated and not frequented by many. As this vehicle approached, I recognized it to be none other than the AE86. The car pulled up to the end of my driveway with me staring at the driver not knowing what to think. I didn't know any red AE86 coupe owner.
The young man stepped out and approached me complementing my broken car. He introduced himself and I did the same. It turns out that his brother is one of the members on this board. We chatted a while and eventually I asked for a ride since I have never sat in a moving AE86.
We headed to his house which was only really a block away where I found another AE86 one the driveway (belonging to the member on this board). There we chatted some more with the father of this young man who had apparently just got his licence. The father was working on another Toyota. What a great way for family bonding! Later on I was offered the chance to drive the red coupe back to my house which was an awesome experience.
We took some more time to look at my AE86 and soon after my dad came by and tried to sound like he knew something about cars. Then the guy at the end of our block came by and talked about how he used to drive an AE86 back in Hong Kong many years ago. And finally, the father came by in the AE86 hatch to check out my car. There were 3 AE86 in front of my house ... how sweet!
It got late as we talked and soon everyone was on their way. I packed up my tools and headed in before I became mosquito chow and thought "What a nice Sunday." I felt officially welcomed to the Toyota family as my folks had been giving me a hard time about the 86 not running and just sitting at the end of the driveway. Thanks to those guys for making my day.
