82' Corolla Question....

I'm looking at an 82' Corolla with a 3TC engine in it. I've been looking to see what other corolla engines I can swap into it. One thats got my interest is the 4A-GZE. Can it be done or has anyone else done something similar? If i can't swap a better engine in the car I'm not gonna waste my time buying it. Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like a possible swap.. I believe the early 80's Corollas came with a 4AC. I
n Australia and Japan, AE70 and AE71 Sprinter, and in the US the AE72 Corolla.

here's another useful link.

crazyrage.. i don't think you know how huge the power you can generate from your 3TC. fyi, it's good up to 300hp easy. you can also turbocharge it or NOS. there's also a twincam head that you can adopt from the 70's corollas.. the 2TG head. one more motor you can look at is the 3TGTE but it's getting rare nowadays so the parts won't come easy.

just so you know, i think the 4A-G motors might not be a good swap coz those motors don't have torque, though the ZE would give you that you're still going from a 1.8L to 1.6L, just my two cents!

goodluck on the project!

So there is a great deal of potential with the 3TC's? I thought by having it being carbed it wouldnt be as strong as having it FI. I havent really messed with carbs that often so I'm a little in the dark when i comes to performance and carbs. Plus when I was doing searches for performance parts for the 3TC there wasnt that much out there. Most of it was for the newer engines with DOHC and for the AE86's. Any recommendations for getting the HP up on the 3TC or know of any that have been done? I know the big boys with their V8's and whatnot got crazyfast carbed vehicles, but most of the stuff more down in the 4cylinder range is mostly FI. Any info or suggestions are fully welcome and again thanks for the responses thus far.

i have a 3TC in my 80 'rolla and i am loving it that i can build it up so easily.
I am putting on weber dual sidedrafts that can match todays fuel injkection performance and forged pistons and connecting rods. easy to make power, but not just power....durable power!

check out the following sites for more info on 3TC.
