What I had suspected with my brakes ended up being true and a little worse then I thought. My whole braking system died all at once. All my calipers are siezed, rear pads are done, 3 rotors are worn out and one of my calipers had a leak. I'm not shocked or surprised at this at all because I knew it was comming soon but I was hoping not until the spring.
Since I'm looking at basicaly $900 worth of parts to replace does any body know of any decent brake kits for $1,000 or under? I'm just thinking I may as well get a kit and through in the brake lines as that is the only thing that is basically not going to be replaced. If not a kit then at least just chaeper parts.
Also reading stuff from a search I did on DoriKaze, OEM pads are $50? If so I'm gonna check OEM prices as well.
Here is what I'm looking at as far as parts right now on my quote:
Brake pads front: $93.80 ea
Brake rotor front: $28.62 ea
Brake caliper front: $99.73 ea
Brake pads rear: $81.45 ea
Brake rotors rear: $28.36 ea
Brake caliper rear: $148.42 ea
Just got some prices from Toyota:
Front pads: $58.63 ea
Front calipers: $653.08 ea
Front rotor: $105.90
Rear pads: $58.63 ea
Rear calipers: $571.97
Rear rotor: $95.00 ea
get some hawk or axis pads they are cheaper and better than stock, and call junk yards about calipers they should be a lot cheaper for a rebuilt one, check nopi they stock a fair amount of stuff allong those lines
Pull your calipers apart and try to compress the piston. If it moves, then the sliders are probably siezed not the caliper itself. The last person to own my car didn't use high temp grease on the sliders which caused the sliders to become badly pitted and they siezed!
There's a shop in Mississauga at Tomken and Bloor called Applewood Service Centre. It's just an every day garage but the guys who own it/work there have a couple of AE86 rally cars. They also do engine swaps. They seem to be pretty knowledgeable and pricing is usually not too bad. I'd try calling them.

one suggestion.....you might try a junkyard.....i had to get a whole new rearend for my 89 gts, because i hit a curb, and the whole thing cost me $75. It came with everything, all braking parts, shocks, springs, and sway bars. It takes some work finding one to get parts off of, but there are other cars that have the same parts.
don't go through toyota..... they just have remanufactured parts like all parts stores... only difference is theirs say toyota on them....
actually, many parts stores have good warranties on their parts..... i'm also looking to do brakes on my mr2 (aw11)..... for some vented rotors i'm looking at about $50 for the pair and i found some carbon metallic pads for ~$35.... i can't see the price on an ae92 being much more
as for the calipers... you can actually get new pistons and a rebuild kit if you wish.... on my old aw11 i had 2 seized rear calipers, and all we did was pull them off, pull the caliper apart and clean it all up/regrease it and it worked great afterwards....

I went to Partsource for my rebuild calipers, you can trade in your old ones. It was about $350 core (after trade in) for all 4 calipers. for rotors and pads. go to pdm-racing.com check out their "toyota corner", well priced cross drilled rotors and kevlar pads, and they have stainless steel brakelines too. highly recommended. thats what I did.
I'm currently out of work so I need my car to get to interviews. So I have already odered all the parts. Unfortunatly I found out my brake master cylinder ain't working no more ether. So now I need one of those as well.
One thing that pisses me off though is I ordered all the parts and specifically told them GT-S parts and nothing else and they gave me the entirely wrong set up for the front and wrong pads for the back...
I've lost count on how many times i've ordered parts for my 86 and got the wrong parts...
if u'r calipers are off the car i know a place u can get them rebuilt for 'bout 300 or less for all four.
