My sons car is a 1986 Corolla LE that is totally stock. What can be done to it to give it a little more pep? What can be done to it to make it stop running on after the motor is shut off? Are there any other Toyota repair books besides the standard Chilton and Haynes? ie I have a Bentley for my Jetta. By the way, I started working on cars late in life and don't know much about carbs, which his car has. Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

I don't know if you can still get the repair manual for thoes or not from Toyota. I know they still sel them for the 1985 Corolla GT-S but I'm not sure about that Corolla. If they do It will only be for the first year of that particular Corolla style. But all of this will be useless without a parts #. My car is a 86 GT-S but they only mad the book for the 85 GT-S. I would have never got it if I didn't have the parts # because befor I had it to prove it's avaliability they just said they don't make them for cars that old any more.

1986 Corolla LE

Well, check this out.Its also possible that the timing may be out.As well as there could be some electrical problem. Also check that your thermostat is working properly as excessive heat can cause dieseling.Oh!!.check your idle speed as well.I realise Ive given you quite a bit of work but it could be any of those things. As Ive found in my limited experience with my 89 wagon just about everything is connected and even if you doubt something could be a problem-have it checked anyway!!!!Hope Ive been of some assistance...
