I have been shopping around and there seems to be a couple variants of the 4A around. Which one should I get for my 94 Rolla? The one from the JDM Trueno? Which one is the silvertop? I'm confused.
a 1985 trueno (i assume you're talking about AE86s), is a 16v 4age, around 112 hp, if im not mistaken...
silver top is the 20v version, there are several models of the 20v (North America never got any of these) and they can make anywhere from 160 hp-200 hp (i THINK)...
there's also supercharged versions of the 4AGE, called the 4AGZE....
so to answer your question, do some more research here...
then why the hell TRD would sell AE101 Levin/Trueno parts?
I wouldnt know, but Trueno has traditionally been with flip-up headlights. So instead why dont you enlighten me on telling me what a AE101 Trueno looks like, rather than being an ass.

The engine that would be the most logical fit would be the Silver top 20V 4A-GE with the VVT system. It is rated at 160 HP. A later version, found in the AE111 Corollas, was the Black top 20V 4A, which had the VVT-i system and was good for 165 HP. Black top 20V are fairly hard to get ahold of, and cost a bit more.
Be sure that whatever engine you get, that you get the tranny and the ECU. Otherwise, you gonna have a big headache...

we all know that those rated hp numbers are wrong! you'd be lucky to push an ST around 125whp!

Well its flywheel hp, just like honda hp, a B16 pushes 133whp on a dyno with 97ft-lb torque.... Friend dynoed his mildly tuned B16 EF... We were all laughing like "so can we count over 30% trannyloss"
