Canada What will an LSD Do for and AE86?

I thinking about getting a AE86 Coupe but it doesn't have a LSD.

What would an LSD do and where can I find one?

LSD stands for Limited Slip Differential. Power is basicly transfer to both rear wheels instead of one wheel wich greatly improves the amount of power applied to the road. Very benificial for any car. If you get the AE86 w/out the LSD you can always find one online. Look for a brand called KAAZ. They may seem a bit pricy but they make the best LSDs on the market. Now there's 3 types of LSD: 1-Way, 1.5-Way, and 2-way. 1-Way works only during acceleration (don't know too many people who have this one), 1.5-Way opperates during Acceleration & corning I believe (Most popular), and 2-way works during both acceleration & braking. I'd suggest 1.5-way since they seem to be more common and popular.

EDIT: There's also two kinds of LSD as well: differential and clutch type. I know the AE86 has the differential type, but I dunno if anyone makes a Clutch type. I don't know if there are any differences between the two besides where they go so maybe someone else can elaborate on that.

Hey,
i have kaaz 2way in my 86. Its the best thing since sliced bread for dry conditions , anyway its a little tricky to drive in the rain. So be aware of this, the back end can kick out if ur cornering a bit too fast and u let off to slow down. or if u have sh!t rear or really good front tires this is not a good combo for rain driving either. And don't even think of driving a kaaz in the snow.....impossible. The diff just locks and all u can do is go strait. Also have someone set the lash and pattern of the gears properly, otherwise there will be a very anoying high pitch squeal all the time and the gears could possibly get damaged too. hope this helps.

yafayu... TRD makes 1.5- way for the AE86

FlipSoldier... the LSD equipped AE86 AFAIK didn't come out in Canada. some US versions have 'em though. just get an aftermarket one. KAAZ makes great LSDs and also TRD.

2-way wouldnt be a bad option. 2way works also when slowing down.

EDIT: Didnt notice that RakeRon already mentioned it.

You have to really "Love" your car if you're shelling out $1000 for an LSD.

yes it will break under daily driveing, and also turning will be a bitch.

ona normal car the outside wheel turns more/faster than the inside wheel when turning, if you welld it(spider gears i assume) then they will only spin the same speed even when turning, not good.

also though, cna anyone explain the difference between an internal lsd and an external? j/w really what an external is or how it works
