vibrating car 70+ mph and braking

my poor little corolla shakes when i go around 70 and if i get to 80 it shakes pretty bad, and when i brake you can feel the unevenness on the brake bad, but also when i turn my car around a corner i hear clicks coming from the front end, i dont know too much about cars but id say my brake pads are warped and maybe my front tranaxel needs replacement? what do u guys think?

could be wheel-bearings, or C-V joint. I'd put money on the latter if it was me.

Wait....you mean the car isn't supposed to shake at those speeds? Mine does that and I just figured it was the teeny tires and low ride height, not a mechanical problem. Maybe my car is in worse condition than I thought it was.

Cody,

Definitely CV joints with the clicking sound. You're probably lookin' at around $400 from a fair shop to have both axles replaced......(you always do them both at the same time). Once you have them replaced you're good for at least another 100,000 miles.

Wheel balancing could be part of the problem, but as soon as you said, "clicking", that's about a 99.9% sure sign of CV joint probs.

On the bright side, you don't need to run out tomorrow & get it done. Do some homework. Call local shops........check your pennysaver.......also call AutoZone & the like to see what they want per axle. (They'll call them "stub" axles meaning an axle with the CV joints already on each end and ready to bolt up).

It's not necessarily a job you want to do yourself.

The axles should run between $50 for cheapies to $100+ for good ones or OEM. Being that you're gonna spend a couple hundred in labor, I'd go for some good ones. Spend something closer to $100 each and find out what kind of warranty they come with.

If you have a Pep Boys around you, you can shop the price on the axles alone & then ask them what they want to install them. You could also just have the particular CV joint replaced, but if it's an older car, might as well do both axles right now. You'll feel a lot better about your car when they're done.

Cody, Drive your car on some ramps, then grab the CV axle and see if there is slack in them. The slack can be up,down, left right, back, forth or whatever it just depends on how it has worn. The "slack should be obvious. If you tires are bald buy new ones. If the tires are good have them rotated AND balanced. LEt me know what oyu find out.

Ya i had the same clicking in my sr5 its was the CV Joints. As for the shaking i had the same thing too. The inside of your tires are worn down...even if theres a good tread left on it. You need to get new tires.
