What are the big differences in US and Canadian Emissions & safety laws? Also what would be needed to be done to make a candian car street legal in the US? Because I see ALOT of AE92s and Skylines for sale in Canada and I was wondering how big of a difference the standards are in order convert a AE92 to US spec.
Try looking through the forsale section for starters (saw 1 or 2 there). Even lurked on some skyline forums and remember seeing some people buying them off people who imported them to Canada due to some weird import law.
Yeah, but Motorex (or whatever they call themselves) want an arm and a leg for a Skyline ($30k for a R32 GT-R, thats a 16yr old car!). Anyways back to the original question since the topic got derailed on the 1st reply: Anyone know what would be needed to be done to get a Canadian vehicle to pass American inspection?
i think it should be easier for a car to passed the american lines from canada then a american car passing the canadian lines. but why are youlooking for a candian ae92?
there's probably a few thousand-hundred in us!

yeah, i think it's easier to get a canadian car into the US than it is to get a US car into canada (that's why we get the evo and they don't)
Also, like Cabanon said, ther'es hundreds of thousands of AE92's here, why do u need to get one from canada? I must see at least 5-10 a day on the roads still, and there are plenty more that don't run i'm sure.
My brother imported an AE92 GTS from Canada. It wasn't any problem, other than having to get a letter from Toyota stating that the emissions were comparable. They’re a pain in the butt to find here in the states, but I saw more in one day in Toronto than I see a year around here.
Same. I know of one for sale around me but the guy won't budge on the price with the amount of work it needs. He wants $1300 for it and wont go lower than $1200. The A/C is a bit screwy, the muffler needed to be replaced (checked on it recently, he just replaced it), needs new rotors, and front struts. I offered him $800 for it (being really generous since I'm willing to do the work) and he turned be down with the lame excuse that he has new tires on the car. Its still for sale so I might walk over and make him another offer. But finding them for sale in NJ is a royal pain!
