..'05 Corolla.
Hi People!
Looking for a good quality filter.
A Nippon part# maybe.
The Nippons made in Malaysia are supposed to be good.
Also would like a bigger filter as the stock one is scary small.
Yes, but the stock one was designed to be used on the car and the quality of the OEM toyota is superior to most other brands. Ever hear the classic, "size doesnt matter" it applies to this too

How true!
That filter is tiny.
I'll just feel better with a larger filter.
I have a '02 Pontiac Grand Prix that had a small filter and went with a chevy 4.3L filter which is a bit bigger.
After a couple of thousand miles I'll go to Mobil1 and change the oil and filter twice a year.
That's about 7000 miles per change.
I've heard there's a larger filter that has the right gasket diameter and threads.
Yeah, but the small filter was designed to do its job. Going to a general brand would really cause more risk of engine damage than using the OEM tiny one.

Well I guess I'll go with the Amsoil filter then.
Amsoil says it's good for 12500 miles.
So 7000 shouldn't be a problem.
But it's so small.
you can't beat the OEM filter. and why would you want to keep a filter on past 3600 miles? even if you change oil, there will still be old oil in the old filter...

I want to keep the filter and oil for 7000 miles.
The 3000 mile change thing is a dinosaur with today's oils.
The only people still talking 3000 mile changes are Jiffy Lube and such.
I'm just not comfortable keeping that tiny filter on for my 7000 mile Mobil 1 oil changes..
you're right about the marketing scam with the jiffy lube and stuff. I use synthetic, and they do last longer, but if I pull my dip stick out and the it looks too dark , I change it-filter too. usually some where between 3600 and 5000 miles BTW, any pics of your vette?

I like going 7000 miles.
The new Mobil 1 Extended says it's good for 15000 miles.
Don't feel comfortable going 15K on oil.
Especially the filter.
I'd go with OEM filters and replace the oil at scheduled intervals. What good does it do if you'll replace them after a while anyway?
Besides, if you put a larger filter, the engine will have less oil in it while the filter is doing its job. You want that oil in the engine to cool and lube it. Just my .02

Thanks.Yes,Stingray.
I would add the few ounces of more oil.
Will go with the stock tiny size.
It's a Toyuota and it'll run forever.
Well obviously this is a pointless thread, because whatever we say you still arent listening.

Well oils get dark, but it doesnt mean you have to change them. If the oil was clean, it wouldnt be doing its job of keeping the engine clean. The shit from oils get stuck in the filter, so even if its dark, it isnt contaminated, if the filter is working.
Check any independent 3rd party filter test and you'll see OEM is always the best.
