I just bought a Corolla and the sales guy said the Camry will be redesigned for '06.
Didn't say anything about the Corolla.
He said Toyota plans to redesign the Camry every 4 years.

yeah, generally the corolla is a year after the camry. My guess is 06 for the camry, and 07 for the corolla, but those could be a year later, as teh 5-yr cycle is not set in stone.

no, a model year is about 12 months.

but yeah, the cmary tends to change one year before the corolla (camry changed in 92, corolla in 93, camry in 97, corolla in 98, camry in 02, corolla in 03) However, this isn't set in stone, for example, teh corolla changed in 88, and so did the camry, meaning that the gen2 camry (88-91) only lasted 4 years.

^ no, a year is 12 months an avg automotive generation (aka model year) is usually a 5 year span. Differences are made obvious by a full body change and, but not always, major mechanical changes.
As of the 80's a Toyota's model year time span was made fairly standard, beginning and ending around Aug or Oct so the new model is on the lots before the new year.
Hence...

Camry -
Gen1 = 83-86
Gen2 = 87-91
Gen3 = 92-96
Gen4 = 97-01
Gen5 = 02-06

Corolla -
Gen1 68-69
Gen2 70-74
Gen3 75-78
Gen4 79-83
Gen5 84-87
Gen6 88-92
Gen7 93-97
Gen8 98-02
Gen9 03-07

Half generations are usually the last two years (sometimes 3) and are made obvious by minor body and mechanical improvements

btw - As far as I'm aware there are no gaps in the Camry line, the gen2 Camry started in 87 ...or at least it did when we were considering trading in our 85 Camry for the new model in 1987

no, a model year is almost one year, a model cycle is about 5 years.

as in i've got a MY93 corolla, versus a MY95 or 94.

EDIT: you're right about the camry, i don't know what i was thinking
