the 86 way...clearly communicated

I want to start a new thread because like many of you stated, the last was just getting clouded with mis-communication and puddles of jealous-ladden statements. It seems, that many have missed the point...some by a long shot.

think of it like this: who gets more 'respect' (for lack of a better word).

the skater who goes to the parks, malls, commercial complexes, schools, busting his ass, busting his nuts, getting brusies, scratches and cuts just to perfect that rail slide or that heel flip to manual over the bench (for those that don't know, these are tricks preformed by skateboarders) or the guy who just dresses in and poses with all the latest skater fashion to look cool but can barely balance let alone do tricks on a skateboard??

who would you goto for skating advice? who would you rather associate yourself with to skate with? who would you consider a TRUE skateboarding enthusiast? and who would you consider a poser?

who do you think knows about skating more? who do you think could help you on specifics and techniques? and who do you think is in it because they love it rather than because its current trend?

thats all that it boils down to.....who's into the ae86 for the love of it and who's into it because some fricking cartoon impressed them? Its not whether they are rich or poor, work on their own car or not, race their car or what not...its about the passion and ENTHUSIASM that one gushes with when they sit and talk about their ae86.

I'm sick of people that purchase a hachiroku because of initial d or super street or what ever media influence. I'm sick of people thinking that kouki bumpers are a dime a dozen. i'm sick of people thinking that ae86 mods and upgrades are as easy as hondas. i'm sick of people thinking that the ae86 is something that its not!!!

after every shannonville event, I know exactly why i chose my ae86....to try and get her to go as fast as stink in and out of the turns. That to me is my ENTHUSIASM. thats why i bought the heralded ae86. whats your enthusiasm?

Nick

I, (like most here) agree with you totally. Poser's (or Try-hards as I like to call em) always find a way to polute any decent scean and idea with bullsh*t. Those who need to be part of a group so badly, and have the money to do it, make fools of themselves when they go out and buy all the new'st skater gear, or in this instance the AE86. Eventhough I do agree, and wish that people like that could be banned from things they "Try-hard" in, I say FU*K EM!! Let em look like loosers, even laugh at em. Like the newbee on here that said he wanted to buy a GTS like the one he saw on ID. Take special care in flaming, dont offer any advise etc... etc... In short lets keep our eyes open for Try-Hards, and not hold back when making them feel little, because they dont have the ballz to be seperate from what they feel the "IN" crowd is doing.

Well, I guess you'll be able to tell the true enthusiats in a few years when the InitialD fad dies and the sheep all herd to the next big thing. And all the people still posting here talking about the AE86 will be the guys/gals who really care.

I remember when the anime/manga "Slam Dunk" was popular and all these people start playing bball, getting the team jersey when they didn't even know what the game was all about ... where are they now? Prolly looking for AE86's ... so just tough it out. You never know, maybe this fad will bring some people to becone true enthusiats and maybe they'll have something good to offer sometime down the road.

maybe u might know a few, but i've never actually seen someone buying a 86 because of initial d, or super street, or whatever, it does not matter, yes there are a lot of ppl everywhere mentioning they wanna get a 86 because of blah blah blah, but do they ACTUALLY buy it? yes there are fucking retards out there influenced by whatever influenced them, but buying a car is serious business, especially a 16 yr old car! i'm sure most ppl here are sick of newcomers "who wants to find a 86 because i love initial d", but if u're going to be pissed off about that, then u will be angry the rest of your life, face reality, there are TONS of ppl like this all over the world, not just into the car community, but the way they live through life, or kind of what u said, about the skaters......i goto high school, and high school is a place where u see "phoneys" everywhere, there are ppl trying to be something else, but what can u do? infact, its THEIR life, everyone controls their own destiny, that even means if they wanna fuck it up by wearing a mask......however humans learn from their mistakes, your mistakes are what gets u your experience, so even if they buy their "drift machine" they will get discouraged by the amount of work + maintainance needed, but if they have "passion" and grown true appreciation for the car, they will be what u guys call "true enthusiest", heck true enthusiest can be some guy who don't even have the car! for example i was chatting with a friend who lives in the US, he's the same age as i, he knows what is initial d, he saw initial d, he's interested in finding one, does that make him a "takumi-wannabe" right away? if he was on this board, i would guarantee he gets flamed, but thats not the point, so anyway i chat with him, he knows i'm getting one, he doesn't mention any initial d at all (surprise! not all 16-17 year olds are retards!), and he asks mature questions, i at first thought he's just joking, and i discouraged him with a few bad points with getting a 16 yr old corolla, he doesn't care, and since most guys my age are only concerned with "chicks" i told him "u know chicks won't like u driving a old rust bucket", he gets fustrated and said "i don't care how they think, i'm in love with the car, not the girls"

but its so slow! and u'd be waaaay happier driving a new sports car, you won't be sweating like crazy in the summer, u won't have to spend so much money to repair the car, instead u can use that amount of money and modify the new car!

"but i want to be different, and i'm interested in that (86) car only! i like other cars too but i want to dump my money in a 86"

well how about a nissan 240? the body is definately nicer, more expensive but not as problematic, plus they're faster too!

"no i'm interested in the corolla, i just really want one"

anyway i kept discouraging him and he proved to me he's different from my other friends (thats what made him a really great friend of mine)

anyway back on "the ae86 way"...
i understand your (goodcookiedrift) love for your car, i don't really care why u like it though
i get your point, and u are right, but posting this here won't forward a msg to anyone at all, i think all ppl on this board are wise enough to tell the difference between a cartoon, and a real life machine, also we (well i anyway) got your msg the FIRST time, the reason why some ppl respond differently from another perspective is because they (well i anyway) was trying to "wear" the post down, altering the direction of your post does not mean ppl mis-understood

thank you all for reading my long speech of boredom, i was frustrated too, but if you're gonna be mad at the whole world then u might as well kill yourself

Ya I don't think I'll offer any more help to newbs unless I'm at least 75% sure they are enthusiasts. The poseres are starting to piss me off. You try to help them but they ignore you and continue on with their delusions.

I find I just waist time in helping to guide them in the right direction. Thoe sometimes they can become enthusiests. All I can say is if they have no intrest in getting the "Bible" or learning more about their car in general as opposed to how they can get 200HP+, what body kits are avaliable, or they can drift into a curb 1 day after getting the car then they are probably not enthusiests.

But like it was already stated this fad will eventually pass then we can be back in business without the large amount of idiots that are following the crowd.

ppl who like a car based on influence can easily be convinced in getting some other car

and if u're not happy with these idiots getting a temporary thrill in your beloved 86, too bad, u can't change the world by posting on an internet forum

why do people rag on nick because he is upset about this phenomenon?

aren't people allowed to have passion for anything any more? to care about something ?

Definately worded much better.

I can fully agree with your statement.

About the only good thing to come from all of the attention the AE86 is getting is that the ones left out there may be taken better care of, and when the 'fad' is over, prices should come back down and a bunch of decent condition AE86s will hit the market.

project trueno, i understand your point of view. However, its an apathetic stance....a passive stance that merely renders you as an observer rather than a participant. I was not raised to be apathetic...therefore, when something irks me or disturbs me, i go at it head first.

I'm not a zealot....i don't plan nor do i expect to change someones mind. However, my 'rant' (if you want to call it that) is an analysis on something thats very wrong not only in the car world, but in society in general. I mean, you could write a thesis on the root of my arguement. Therefore, its important to me to make a point of this. its important to be contrary so that we are not beguilled to one way of thinking; so that we are not molded to accept everything as it is.

Personally, i don't agree with the apatehtic approach to problems, however i'm not going to divulge into that as it strays way off topic.

But i will say, I'm a lot more selective and tight lipped about who i will help and who i choose to associate in my circle. and like many of you have said, hopefully this fad will just wear down and when the dust clears, the true heads will be left standing.

Nick

nick, u know what's funny?
idiot kids influenced by initial D dont only jump onto the 86 bandwagon, they try to drift with what they have. i found this idiotic. recent threads on torontocivics.com ask how to drift in their civics. man, the world is full of idiots who are influenced by what they see. the posers buying 86's will soon learn that sourcing parts is a pain, modding is a pain and just plain doing anything to that car is a pain. they will give up owning it, and it'll go back to the market

posers

Do you know how many Tom, Dick & Harry's come up to me and ask if my car is for sale? On top of that they leave notes on my car to ask if it's for sale. The demand for this car has skyrocketed ever since Inital D and Superstreet. Next guy that asks if my car is for sale I'm going to tell them "Do you see a For Sale sign on the car"? When they say "No", then I'm going to say "Then it's not for sale"!

anyone see YET ANOTHER ae86 (yellow with the n2 flares) in super street featured in their "back in the day" coloumn?

although their photographic content is improving as is their selection of featured cars, their editing is still so "hi im a newbie" -ish.
