Automatic Transmission Issues

For the past week the transmission has been acting a little wierd. It shifts hard into each gear, when it used to be real smooth. Also, the car seems to be idling a little rougher, vibrating more than usual. When the oil was last changed, they checked the fluids and the transmission fluid looked fine. It is due for another oil change so I will be bringing it in this friday to Jiffy Lube, and have them check it again. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott

Flush and fill the tranny fluid.
How many miles are on the car?
How many since the fluid was changed?
If it was never done then get it done.

I had the same symptom on my 98 corolla. It would not shift smooth in my automatic transmission. It would kind of jerk back just a little when shifting gears. All I did was removed the transmission pan and cleaned the filter and refilled it with valvoline maxlife transmission fluid. Also I bought some lucas oil transmission treatment and that helped a lot too. Very smooth shifting transmission now. Hope that helps out.

What would I do if that were the case, and how do I check for that? I am getting the transmission fluid changed this week, which will hopefully fix this.

yeah i'd def. get the fluid changed. My auto tranny blew out on my 2000 at 68k, factory misseated snapring according to the tranny mechanic, but warranty was expired and all toyota did was send me coupons.

With the motor idling, lean on the valve cover in different spots putting a little bit of weight into it. If you hear a significant change in the vibration its a bad mount. Most likely it'll be the mount nearest to where you pushed when you heard the change.

Really all you need to do once you determine if and which mount is broken is loosen the mounts, jack up the motor, secure it with jack stands (be sure to put pieces of wood between the jack/jack stands and the motor) and remove and replace the bad mount. Otherwise it can be fairly pricey to have one replaced by a shop.

Well I am going to have the car looked at by a car-savvy friend this week, and will be sure to report back with my findings.

Thank you all,
Scott
