The Matrix is said to be on a Corolla chassis and it's available in all wheel drive.
Can't understand why the Corolla isn't available with all wheel drive.
I would have bought one even at say $1500 more.
For some unknown reason toyota for the most part only likes to give 4x4/AWD to station wagon cars (excluding trucks). There are some acceptions to this as I remember for very limited time there was a 4x4 Corolla in ether the late 80's or early 90's...
I remember those AWD corollas, they had the headroom of a hearse and wouldnt fall out of a bucket. I have no idea why they were built but they didnt have enough power to get un stuck
Funny, I just passed by an old All-Trac Corolla wagon a day ago. If you want a new All-Trac Corolla then petition for it so there'll be a market. It's also about business, if nobody wants it then nobody would offer it. Just my .02
Toyota also made an All-Trac AE92 sedan, but they are rare. You will see ten AWD wagons for every AWD sedan you see. Not only did Toyota discontinue them for lack of sales, I think the Corolla was getting too sophisticated by the 7th generation (airbags, ABS, etc.) to have AWD and still be an "economy car". AWD would have made the cars just too expensive (especialy with Subarus out there to be had). I'd love to find an All-Trac Corolla sedan, though...just to say I have one. As a matter of fact, there was a nice one that sold on Ebay not too long ago, and it only went for $1500. Too bad it was on the other side of the country! Regards, Aaron
There was also the 4wd starlet EP85 i believe.
But as mentioned, most 4WD/AWD Toyotas were very week in power, or drivetrain, except for the Celica GT-Four! love that car...
