I think i wanna turbo the 'FE

I did a search on the form relating to forced induction and the 4A-FE and did quite a bit of reading and I've decided that turbo is probably my best option because, turbo's are universal unlike superchargers, and don't need to be filled up like nitrous. I know it would probably be better to drop in a 4agze but i really don't wanna throw away my fe since it only has 130,000km on it. I want to get a small turbo (7-10psi) so it won't have much lag and i want to do it as cheap as possible so does anyone think i can just rip a used turbo system off another car and put it on mine? If yes what kind of car should i rip it off of, or do i have to go brand new? And does anyone know a site that has a walkthough on how to turbo a non turbo car step by step? It can be any car i'm sure i can apply the walkthrough to mine its not as if every car doesn't have the same parts. And does anyone know of a good turbo faq site? And until now my previous car projects have been, helpin my friends swap the engine on an rx7, change a tranny on a pulsar, change a busted rad on a camry, and I changed the clutch on my car so u think with enough readin i can pull this off?

Bolting up all the parts for a turbo isn't going to be hard. It's sourcing parts and then setting up your fuel management that will take some work. I havent' done this myself but I've read up on a couple guys who did custom turbo's on the civic's and it's a lot fo work.

I think one of the main things you're going to have to find is a turbo manifold for your motor. If they don't have one on the market, then you're either going to have to find one that "almost" fits and fabricate an adaptor plate or just get a shopt to make a custom one for you. From there, you can rip off waste-gates and turbos off cars from the wreckers (but it's not easy to find turbos, at least not ones in good condition) and then some sort of down pipe to your exhaust (again, a shop can help with this). The rest of the plumming is pretty straight forward and can be thrown together with pipes, short hoses as connectors and hose clamps.

Next you'll want to look at your fuel and ignition system.

Actually, there's a turbo article in Super street. I think it gives the basic idea so head out to a local chapters and knock yourself out!

upon lookin into it a little further......

I think i'm goin to do a centrifugal super charger, the custom plumbing on a turbo would kill me even if i did get all the other parts used. The centrifugal supercharger is universal like a turbo but needs very little plumbing like a roots blower, if it isn't intercooled (which i probably wouldn't do). Does anyone know if i can just add an extra pulley on the crank where the alternator, powersteering and water pump is?

How on earth are you going to bolt on a SC? Believe me, plumbing for the turbo will be a sinch compared to trying to make an SC fit. The GZE crank pulley might fit (I have an extra), but what about tensioners and intake manifold mods if necessary? Mounting brackets and mounting points?? Fuel management problems will not go away either.

Talk to 4A-FTE on this board who turboed his 4AF. I think it only cost him about 2-3k to run 14.4....

And you'll spend a good chunk of your life trying to find a belt that will work.

Here in the netherlands many people try to gain power on the 4afe

we came to the conclusion that if you exceed the damn thing around 140hp that the engine will break.

Most people here do 20v swaps and one has done a 4efte swap from a starlet turbo.

Be aware that the 4afe is build for economics
