Check Engine Light Frustration

The "check engine" light on my 2000 Corrola is driving me crazy. A few months ago, it came on so I took it to my mechanic. His diagnostic did not show an error code so he reset the light. The light came on again, I took it back to the mechanic, he still could not see an error code. The front oxy sensor was a little off on the resistance so he replaced it. Still, the light continues to come on, so I have just been resetting it myself. The car runs great even when the light is on.

It usually comes on when under hard acceleration or going uphill steep at freeway speed.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong and how to fix?

The gas cap might not be tight enough.

go to the toyota dealership, we have handhelds that are for toyotas specifically and can tell you exactly what is wrong, most independent shops only have scan tools for reading generic codes unless they have the most up to date rom cards (which are very expensive, your toyota dealer will have the most up to date software from TIS to scan with)
it might cost you from $30-50 for them to do it but it would be worth it, yes?
