Unhappy 87 rolla, installing after market radio, brown wire?

I have no idea what this extra wire is for. The wires are cut off so I am going to have to splice everything. Thanks to all who view/reply.

Crimp and heatshink everything back on and just get a wiring harness. Kill the confusion and hassle.

I agree with NRM...splice the stock harness plug back on and then buy an aftermaket harness adapter. I hate it when I remove a stereo for replacement and find out that some goon has cut the harness out and spliced a bunch of wires together with MASKING tape! Christ, a harness adapter is only ten freakin' bucks..why do people do this!? Do it the pro way and you will not have any trouble with it. By the way, brown (and black) wires are usually ground wires, but I am not sure about your car. I looked at my factory manual, and the brown wire is a ground for the 1990 models...yours is likely the same. Regards, Aaron

You could have just gone to Walmart and bought a Toyota harness adapter.. then all you do is match the colors and plug.

thanks to all

thanks to all that replied. I did buy a wire harness before I posted, it was less than $10 at Walmart . But I don't have a connnector for the speaker wires, someone just cut those off. I have a black (ground) wire and that brown one. I guess I am just going to have to figure something out, like taping it off. Thanks again.
