89 corolla

Hi all. I am currently driving a '89 Corolla sedan. This is probably one of the least powerful of all corolla series, but I would love to know more about the car if anyone have any information. I do love this car and I would like to make it even better.

My car is not fuel-injected, which means I have to hit the gas a few times before I start it up... but as for late when I start my car and put it to d drive, it will stall and I have to restart it. Anyone have any clue what I can do to help this situation?

Also, anyone know place where I can get body parts to replace rusted exterior?

you have the 4afc engine, down draft carb,

if your engine is stalling, i would check the plugs, ignition, clean out the carb with spraying some carb cleaner down it, check if your intake filter is clean.

those should all help considerably

this is the exact car i had except mine was an 88 model made in late 87. it has the 3 spd auto tranny, no OD! haha.

Welcome to TN!

your car is it a lx lsx or le??

your motor is a carburated 4af the same that i have in my sr5 it runs about 100 to 105 hp

did it had a tune up recently? spark plugs, cap and wires, rotor,
caburator cleaned ,if yes its propably your idle that is to low.
i sugest that you buy the haynes manuel 15 $ (can be found at canadian tire)
it will help you understand some of the basis in egine running and care

did you get the car recently ?

i sugest that you take care of all the mecanic first and then work the body if you put money on the body and your car die on you ....

hope you'll have fun with your car

ask if anything were here to help try to look for old topics on the board it may help you ...

ciao

Hey there Akira!!! I have a 1989 Corolla as well!!Mine is a station wagon tho with a 3sp auto and a carburetor.Definitely not the fastest or anything but ya gotta love it!!!!The guys who responded earlier are correct in their diagnosis of possible problems. As for the body,I guess you can try any junkyards that might be in your area as that would be considerably cheaper than going to your local dealer and ordering body parts.Great to have you on the board and remember, your car is a Toyota!!!!!!
