this past friday morning, I was on my way to work. I was following the exact same route i have driven every morning to work for the past year. this friday though, the ground was wet.
As i exited off the highway, i drove down the twisty on-ramp which would merge onto a regular street. This street was more like a country back road, though, so people usually drive briskly on it. I kept my speed up , as i always do, to make merging easier. But something happened. I don't remember any of the details, in fact i barely remember anything about the incident at all, but i do remember the wet roads causing my little red ae86's rear end to come out a bit.. I barely remember feeling as if i would slide tail first into oncoming traffic, but i can't be certain. The next thing i remember was waking up in a hospital bed, surround by nurses and doctors, with all kinds of wires and hoses running all over my body.
Two policemen informed me that my car was destroyed and i was facing careless driving charges. It should be no surprise that i would be charged with something, knowing my luck with those fucking cops. I could have a tire blowout and wind up charged with manslaughter. Yes, I'll be fighting this one. I spent all of friday and all of saturday morning in a hospital bed.
The cops also handed me two polaroids (which i've photographed below), which confirmed my worse fears (well, next to worse.. I was still feeling ok, for the most part).
My dream ae86, rust free, from alberta, one previous owner, babied all its life, was now destroyed.
of course, my parents responded sensibly, telling me I was lucky to be alive and that i should be thankful for that. But I just can't help but think of all the time, money, and energy i've put into this car, and how slim the chances are of me ever finding another one in comparable condition again.
So i thought i'd share this story with people who might understand.
Its funny how one minute everything is going your way; then, in a fraction of a second, its all gone. forever.
thanks for listening, guys.

Wow, that looks like a pretty serious accident judging from the damage. Good thing you're ok and get well soon man. As for your 86, R.I.P. Everything always works out in the end, I'm sure somewhere down the lane there's a babied Corolla waiting for you.
Randy, I'm glad you're ok. After looking at the photos, well, as sad as it is that the car is wrecked before I got to see her, it's one of those things that could've turned out a lot worse. You've been very helpful to me from photcopying pages of the "Bible" a year ago to answering all my bothersome ICQ messages to keeping my AE86 hopes and dreams alive. When I get her running, you're always welcome in the driver seat. And we'll find you your next sweetheart! Get rest!
i'm really sorry to hear that... but at least u're ok, and that's most important.
friday was really bad... heavy rain, heavy fog... i have to pick up a bad shape 86 with only front brakes working(and the pad is almost gone) on my way home along TAUTON rd (E of steeles) the fog gets so thick and the rain was so bad i couldn't see anything at all, i had to stop on the road side and waited around 15mins until i can actually see the road.
Hope u'll get well soon, then u can look for a 86 again
oh yeah... the cop charging u careless driving... that's BS..ridiculus
Crap, Randy... you just got that thing. Really sorry to hear that that happened. But I know a guy who knows where there's one for about $500. I think he wants it, but I'll try to get the contact info from him.
Actually, it's chris for the LAC board who found it. The thread is in the performance section.
I am really sorry that you lost such a beautiful car, just happy we didnt lose you. Get well...and when you're ready there'll be another 86 for you to get behind the wheel of
.......losing a loved one is never easy, i hope you are OK
Its hard to believe that you came away from that wreck alive and in one piece, you're a lucky man. A horrible wreck is one of the worst ways to go, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Wow, Randy I couldn't even tell right away from the pics which end of the car I was looking at! At first when Aaron told me you hit a guardrail I thought that maybe you only suffered some minor road rash. But that looks like it was flipped a few times or something! Be glad you weren't hurt.
I know it sucks to loose something that you worked so hard on...I remember just before my 1993 DA6 was smashed we had just finished everything and the car was finally running perfectly. New paint, new Brembos, new tint, new stereo, blah blah blah and all of a sudden some stupid f*ck face biach rear ends my gf and it's over. But again, thank God my gf was not hurt. However, I salvaged and kept my write-off, the damage was nothing compared to what yours unfortunately suffered.

That facked man. Good to see you're still here tho.. 86's are death traps, they like to step out a lot... But you know what? Toyotas are really safe.. My friend with an ae92 with a levin front end hit oncomming traffic at 80km/h, and walked away.. The thing was smangled, but he walked away.. Andrew knows how bad it was smashed too, heh, he took the calipers off it after...
Atleast you didn't have a kouki bumper, or you might have not been so lucky... shiat..
It looks like rear-end damage, how do those o rings on the injectors look? still salvage-able?? heh....
once you beat that traffic bs, you'll laugh at it man...
and then we can come down and pull that engine out of that junk and drop it in whatever you get next..
