92 corolla brake lights and signal problems

when i push the brake pedal down the front and rear directional lights come on steady. It seems as if the passenger side comes on a split second before the drivers side. When i use the turn signal without applying the brakes the one selected will blink but the other side is just steady on and the same thing if i signal the other side. When the brakes are applied and the turn signal is used it barely blinks mostly steady. All the bulbs seem OK none that are black or with broken filaments. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

I'm from rochester NY as well. Thats not related to your problem though.

Did you just buy the car and it was like this already? Or it just started happening randomly one day?

I think it's a grounding problem. Negative poles against ground and once that connection doesn't work 100% you got gremlins at work.

It's likely in a car over 10 years of age, that the grounding is corroded. Hard to find, I know, but I'm afraid you'll have to trace the cables.

Let's hope it is that and not brittle cable insulations, which may produce a short circuit.

Good Luck.

have had the car 2+ years. I got some blowups of the signal light areas with all of the wiring and grounds. someone told me to bare the white and black wire in the right back light cluster first. Set my ohm meter to dcv 15, take a jumper cable to the black wire on the ohm meter run it to the negative on the battery then touch the red wire on the ohm meter to the bared wire. if i get a voltage read back then it is the ground somewhere in that circuit. It is supposed to read zero. Hopefully the first circuit I try is the one. If there is anything i'm missing let me know

Take the brake light bulbs out and see if it still happens, if yes it's prolly the sockets, if no it's a bulb you just took out.

p.s. I do this for a living.
