AE92 GTS short shifter?

A friend of mine told me that the TRD Short shifter for the 88-91 Celica is the same as the 88-91 Corolla GTS/SR5. Is this true?

Just get the part numbers and see if they are the same. You could call a Toyota Dealer that is a TRD parts seller or posibly find the part number on an online store with TRD parts.

like trd dragon said.......just make it....i did it and its really easy..... just take a grinder, cut it on the straight part of it and cut an inch or 2 out of it, depending on how short you want it. then just weld it back together, and wah lah.....homemade short shifter.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.. a short shifter is not called short shifter because its smaller... its called short shifter because the shifting time between gears is shorter than a regular shifter.

wait wait wait, I haven't done a short shifter switch before but - if he thinks shorten it is a bad thing - does that mean theres more to the kit than just the rod? does it come with a new gear box? because that would make sense of him knocking the shorten stock rod - but if not then, I don't get why its an issue - doesn't it result in the same outcome?
I think I just confused myself, trying to say what I wanted to

If you cut the shifter it will have a shorter throw (with higher effort) and should make shifting a bit faster. Most after market "short shifters" both shorten the rod and raise the pivot point, to give a shorter throw without compromising as much effort. The TRD SS usually is almost the same leangth as stock but has a higher pivot point making the throw distance shorter by about 30%. Sometimes they come with new brakets, sometimes they don't.

It's all about the shorter throw!! Everyone is on my case about how the shifter is long and looks like it belongs to a truck,i could care less about how long or what the shifter looks like i just want the throw to be shorter.TWM makes a short shifter(short throw)kit for 88 Celica so i need to find out if the Corolla GTS shifter is the same as the Celica.

Go to a junkyard and see if the GTS one is like Chris described in the previous post, with same length stalk, but less throw.

2-second search reveals:
TRD makes an AE92 quick shifter:

Do want to use the Celica one because you can get one cheap or something??
Just find a site that sells both parts and compare the part numbers like I said.
The Master Corolla Sticky has shitloads of product links, I'm not going to do it for you
