Hi...Did they first give you a warning? Did the police use a decibel meter on your running car? If so did they tell you what the city code says the sound limit should be(day or night?) and give you your reading on the summons compared to the code? I would check the city codes as to what the true sound/decibel limit is on Automobiles and get your own reading on your cars decibels.. You just might have a case if they differ alot as to what the police told you...Also does this same decibel rule apply to motorcycles? I have heard some really loud ones...Good Luck....Radd Guy...

I followed this path before when I pulled over in The Bronx by a bored cop, so allow me to answer your questions.

NYPD doesn't give warnings, they give tickets.
NYPD doesn't use decibel meters, they use pens.....to write tickets...
NYPD doesn't tell you the city code. They say it's loud, then in the eyes of the city "it's loud".

I fought my case for 2 years for the same offense.
The cop never showed up to either of the 4 appearances, and he's no longer a cop.
Didn't matter anyway, the judge still found me guilty....with NO PROOF, except a cop's heresay....

The ticket claimed that he could hear me from 440ft away.

That's the length of an NFL football field plus 110 extra feet.

I'm not the only car on the road, but from 440ft away, he can see me...

I had to pay the fine.
I can appeal, but the fine must be paid in order to appeal...

This is one of the reasons why I now live in PA.
I love NYC, and I love my Yankees, but I say to the corruption.
Now they can kiss my Camry's ass, and suck my Datsun.
