Smile Yzza1 Vs Yzza2 Oil Filters

I noticed that Corolla uses either OEM filter. One seems to be much larger, I would assume the larger on is better? The Amsoil filter is in between the two. Which one do you guys reccomend? I am in the middle of an oil change...thanx

I was hungup on filter size too.
I use Amsoil filters.
I'm not happy with the size of the Amsoil.
Same size as the Fram etc.
I've learned that it's the media inside that makes the difference.
Not just the size.
So bigger is not always better.

Great info on oil and oil filters and such here.

I bought a couple of Amsoil filters SDF10's and will use them
On that forum Amsoil filters are well respected.
In fact they're at the top with Mobil 1's.
I will go with the SDF34 next time. It's a bit bigger.
I go with Mobil 1 and change it on Nov and Apr.
That's about 6K miles.

Sdf34

I though sdf-10 was the correct size. Is the SDF34 the correct diameter? Are you 100 percent sure it will fit? thanks for all your help on this Joe. j

I use FL400 on my 2004 Vibe with a Toy. 1.8L. Perfect fit.

Matrix and Corolla have the same engine.
A few people use that filter on that site.
It cross references to SDF34.

i use only toyota factory filters, the aftermarket stuff is crap, toyota packs twice as much media in one filter than a fram of the same size, that and they have two stage media from fine to ultra fine, they make two different sizes because the smaller ones were used on older blocks such as the 4a series where the filter had to stay close to the block to avoid getting too hot from the manifold (it sits right under the exaust manifold not like the newer rollas that have it right on the bottom)

thanx for the explanation Rat

It now makes sense to me why they would make 2 Filters. I just changed my oil that had the larger filter with 5000 miles on it. The oil seemed real clean. I am now using AMSOIL. I was getting a nice 32 MPG combined City HWY. It will be interesting to see if the oil helps a bit mileage wise.........jj

Forget about the SDF34.

I've always used Amsoil filters.
I go about 7K on a oil filter.
Amsoil says their filters can go 12500 miles.
Highly rated along with nthe Mobil1 oil filters on the Bob the oilguy site.
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi
It's just that the Amsoil sdf10 is like the Fram 4967....tiny.
I bought 2 SDF10 filters so I'll use them.

Trouble with the OEM filter is which filter is available. The OEM made in Japan is heavier and better than the US made Champion OEM filter.A couple of different countries make their filter.
I'm not taking a chance putting 7000-7500 miles on a filter that can't handle that mileage..

I will only use an Amsoil or the new Mobil 1 Extened Performance filter.

I'd think that the OEM filter would last atleast the same as the amsoil filter, toyota doesnt have the possibility of selling filters that would cause engine failures.

I'm sure OEM will go the 5K intervals.
Amsoil says 12500 on their filter life so I know I'll get 7500 miles without a problem.

They do 10000km service intervals with the OEM filter over here.
Its not the filter that breaks, its the oil chemicals that start to break out after a certain amount. Filters could basically last multiple oilchanges, but its a <10dollar piece, so its wise to swap it every time.
