I get around 25 mpg city driving in my XRS. I have seen 30.X mpg on long 65mph highway stints. Remember anyone who lives in a large metropolitan area is probably using oxygenaged fuel or gasohol to help with smog. That is what the product may contain up to 10% ethanol stickers mean. Ethanol is a fine fuel but it only has about 50% of the stored energy of gasoline. That means instant 5% reduction in fuel economy just from that.

We're averaging just under 34 mpg with an '05 S automatic driven in hilly to mountainous mixed driving (city and traffic jammed highway - no real "freeway" cruise controlled driving as of yet - am looking forward to our trip from TN to PA this summer for a good hwy mpg test)

It sounds like you are getting 28-29 in town. Look for it to be about 33 mpg in town.
I hope so...The first 6-8 months I had my 03-S I was getting into the 450-up per tank range and close to 40 MPG(april-nov)...Then that winter it dropped down to 350..last winter I could barely get into the 300's per tankful...its slowly rising back up into the middle 300's now, hope it continues to rise...they say that the reason that gas mileage goes down in the winter is because of the additives they put in for the cold months...Don't know how true that is ...Radd Guy...

MPG - 2005 Corolla LE

I just went 357 miles on a full tank. 2005 Corolla LE. When I filled up, the pump went to 10 1/2 gallons. So I figure I had about 2 1/2 gallons to go before I broke down (13 gallon tank). I even used the air conditioner sometimes.

I should be getting 38 MPG. So, if you compute (38 X 13) I should get 494 miles to a full tank. However, that would be all highway driving and perfect speed limit, like 65 MPH.

I used 1/6th of a tank in 42 miles(according to the gauges.. i know--I should have used the pump). that's less than 20mpg. I cant get the exact MPG, since my car has only 45 miles. Kinda scary though- it seems like chugging gas like beer.

I keep a little book in my car.
Every time I fill up, I put the date and the miles and how much gas I put in.
If I don't fill up, I still mark the info and add it into the next fill-up.
That way I can calculate my gas mileage weekly to see how my car is running and also have accurate records. I use the book to notate oil changes and tire rotations as well.

One thing that I have found out is that you can top off your Corolla almost up to a gallon more, I was able to pump/squeeze almost 14 gallons in one time that I was almost empty so if you don't do that everytime it will throw your gas mileage figures off ...Radd Guy...

I get 32mpg [325miles a tank] on 10 gallons. I have the automatic trans and drive semi-aggressive passing the cotton tops [slow old white haired ladies] that get in the way. the low fuel light comes on with 3 gallons left [90 miles] which I dont understand since I believe its supposed to come on with 1 1/2 gallons remaining [around 50 miles].

Actually it is accurate no matter how much your tank can hold. You just have to use the same method to fill it every time. I stop pumping as soon as the pump shuts off to avoid putting gas in the filler tube.

So I fill up and write down the mileage.

When the car gets low again, I fill up again and write down how much gas I put in and the mileage. By dividing the mileage by the gallons I put in, I can get my mpg.
Any slight variance in how much gas you can fit in doesn't affect the figures much when you consider how many times you fill up, it averages out.
